Re: I scored!!!!

Pretty sweet find for free......

I can't believe all the pine needles that were around that thing! When I saw the first picture I thought the frame / body was laying on the ground.

Re: I scored!!!!

Congrats! It's a V-8 with the neat window trim and a side-mount spare too. You got yourself a good one there.

Re: I scored!!!!

Cool, I am glad you got it. It is a 55, but was sold as a 56. I would bring it back to life as a 55. It should have a 288 V8, but some of these 55s sold as 56s had the 316.

Re: I scored!!!!

Yea it would definately go back original because its all there. Went through the old garage that it was sitting by today. I found the original jack for it and I also found a 30's intake and exaust manifold, with an old updraft carb on it. There were some old front front fenders that look like their off of a 30's ford or chevy truck..will post some pics tomorrow of them. Lots of antiques in the garage...

Nice find! I think I saw you're '72 at the rt. 66 car show. If you build this one up as nice as your blue truck, its sure to be nice! Can't wait to see some progress. Nik

Re: I scored!!!!

so I was looking at my new truck today and I was wondering why the numbers on the shift indicator went like N 1-4 1-3 1-2 R whats the deal with the 1-4 1-3 1-2? Ive never delt with a hydramatic before, is it like a regular auto trans with the normal D then L1 L2?

Re: I scored!!!!

Are the front fenders on a GMC the same as a chevy? someone hit something with this truck and it buckled the fender pretty good. just wondering if their the same.

No, the Chevy and GMC fender are different. I have a GMC fender on my 55 Chevy that a P.O. installed. It has a concave spot on the side of the grill opening that they filled in with a big chunk of Bondo. ( I will try and remember to take a photo of mine and post here for reference.) Because of this feature, I would think it would be easier to use a GMC fender on a Chevy, rather than the other way around, as not having this identation would make installing the GMC grill a little mor challenging. I don't think it would me too difficult to modify a Chevy fender, though, as I would think that they would be easier to find, and I don't thin GMC fender are being reproed.

Which side is damaged?

Re: I scored!!!!

WOW, I looked at the photos again and answered my own question...It is definitely the pass side. I think mine has the GMC fender on the pass side as well!
