Re: Pics of plug wire routing with hei and ram horns

We make wire separators out of electrical ties and use 180 degree ends on the spark plug wires to keep them away from the Rams horn manifolds. Here is a picture to show you the idea.

Randy, Here's the way I routed mine with HEI and ramshorn exhaust. Pic shows point dist. instead of HEI, but it routes the same. Hope this helps? You can get the plugwire stands from GMCPauls. He has them in stock.

I sent GMCPual an email. But have not got a response.

Is part numbers 1713723, 1713724, and 1713726 the correct part numbers?

Re: Pics of plug wire routing with hei and ram horns

I used the plug wire off of a vette when i had rams horn manifolds. they are much longer than the truck wires which allows you to route the wires under the manifolds.

LMC has some spark plug wire stands/holders that will work for these types of plug wires and you can see how they are routed. on page 158, in the Ignition section, of my LMC catalog, they have the plug wire retainers for the vette style wires with the ram horns manifold.

and depending what version of the manifolds you have, i would grind the manifold casting a bit around plug 6. this was notorious for burning the boots and casuing arching. the manifolds pictured above are much nicer castings than mine were and they clearly dont have the problem. but some do.

I just run them the length of the valve covers (top) and curl them around the front

I am having a hard time finding the valve cover bolts that are long enough; any advice?

Thats how mine are, and it works great. I need to install the nomex sleeves on the ones behind the downspout though.

Mine are from a 77 Vette, they are long enough to route under the rams horns.

Have any pics, or did you route the same as the diagram above?

This is what I did when I had ramhorns. I had them routed exactly like the diagram. Worked great.

Re: Pics of plug wire routing with hei and ram horns

Here's how I did mine...mostly stock routing except I did not run the front wires behind the manifolds as I couldn't find a good place to the hold them secure and was worried about burning them.....so I used a clip on the frame..

Been awhile since I saw this thread. I used plug wires for a 75 vette with HEI. Worked good.

I second the billet plug wire holders... I had those on mine and they are coming back unless I do a duramax / allison swap

Shoot I was going to use this but in the end I didn't, now i wish I had. looks great.
My wires are run per the diagram. I used what NAPA had labeled as for an RV of that same vintage. probably the same as the vette. Plenty of length to route in various different pathways.
