Frame Hitch Install
I would like to install a class III frame hitch to my 70 SWB and retain the spare tire carrier. Draw-Tite has one (PN75034) but the instructions say "the spare tire carrier will have to be relocated and/or modified."
What is involved in the relocation and/or modification?

You may want to try Early Classic Enterprises at www.earlyclassic.com They have a hitch with a receiver that hides behind a fold down license plate frame.

Thanks for the hitch info. You didn't mention the Michigan tag. They didn't have to ask me twice if I would be interested in CA. This is gearhead heaven.

I had a U-Haul hitch on mine...well, my dad had it installed...and it looks like they did so without messing with the spare tire at all...I've since pulled and stashed the whole mess, seeing as my spare "tire" was in horrible shape, and I used the hitch once...but saving it so I can use it again. Saved a decent chunk of weight with that one...

The earlyclassic website has a picture. I just called to order the kit that has the hidden mount, receiver, flip-up tag, and wiring for $189. They are out of stock until next week.

Ever think about the hidden receiver, they mount between the frame rails.
Don't know if they are made with the class III ..............

The hidden hitch looks something like that, hides behind the license plate with a hinged unit to access the hitch by lifting up the plate.

My UHaul isn't far off of that, except it bolts to the horizontal underside of the rear rails rather than the vertical parts as it appears that one does.
