Help with rear axel seals

Went to get some new rear axle seals and all the parts stores and the dealer said ther is more then one axle that was in a 72 C10. Whats up with that I thought there was a 12 bolt and that was it. Anyone know?

Most of the parts stores asked me if it was a GM or Dana Axle. I'm not sure there was anything other than GM in the 1/2 ton two wheel drive models, but if it's got 12 bolts, tell them it's the GM axle.

It will be the 12 bolt gm 12-7/8 ring gear. National seal 8835, I do believe. It has been a few years since I worked at a parts store. Not dana!

I agree with Sam, there should be a number or other type of markings on it to identify. Good luck

Seven years of selling auto parts tells me that it is a GM 8.875" ring gear (meaning a 12 bolt truck rear, to the shade tree mechs). The fact that I put a National seal part #8835 in my 71 C10 12-bolt rear, which I looked up myself, and by golly it was right. Looking up seals and bearings is hard to do, due to the number of choices listed in the catalog, but after selling that seal hundreds of times for Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd and 4wd tells me it is so.
