"Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

I have never seen this type of thread on here before, but I thought it would be interesting to see how many truck owners on here have trucks that they saved from the scrap yard instead of buying running and ready to go. In other words, the truck was NOT in running condition, and was just sitting neglected and rusting away for years until it was saved by a board member. Post your "as found" and "present day" pictures!

Present day:

Saved this Holy Grail-rare prize! Still a work in progress, and runs!

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

I have hauled many home from junk yards and recycling yards.
These are some of the more recent that I still have...
Present day hasn't changed much except the snow is gone now.

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

Here is a K20 I picked that was going to be parted out then to scrap yard. Here is link to the build and getting it back on the road. Truck has moved on to another builder that is doing a complete restoration. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=748755

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

Surely there are other guys bringing back trucks with one foot in the salvage yard grave ? Let's see those saved truck pics . Even if you haven't started yet

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

Bought this frame and axles out of a junk yard in KY for 400.00 It is a 70 lwb but has a closed knuckle Dana 44, Eaton HO52, 292 cradle, auto. Another board member found it for me and he said it had a stepper bed on it. He got the glove box door but the SPID was missing so no other details

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

Saved this jimmy about a month ago from Erie auto salvage in colorado. Owner of the junkyard said he drove it in there in 1994. Only parts sold from it was the top and rear seat. I had it running and driving in an afternoon.

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

This truck was headed to "scrap" if i didnt buy it. Owner of the truck was storing it at a friends house and he didnt want to hassle with listing it for sale. I did a few things to it and sold it to a fellow board member. I will save as many as i can no matter how bad they are. I'm not a restoration guy but i hate seeing them sit in junk yards or rot behind buildings.

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

I tried to save a yellow 69 c30 flatbed dually from the melting pot, but I was too late... I managed to only get the cab after the frame was taken. The yellow cab will atleast donate it's roof and guts to this 70 shortbed that was left under a pine tree for 15 years.

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

69' Shortbed I recently picked up. Been sitting since 94'. Wasn't necessarily going to the scrap yard but who knows what could've happened to it. Also my 69' Longhorn I saved from a scrapyard in Winslow Az. Still have it, 3 motors later it has a 454. Fun truck to drive!

Eight lugs on a short bed. That's pretty cool.

Picked up this 72 2wd Blazer in TN that passed through 2 other board members before I got it... It's been a long expensive ride since then (and I'm still not done).

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

I see all the work you guys do on these trucks here and in other threads and realize that I ain't gettin' any younger. When I go to replace the engine in my truck I'm going to have to do it in the road. I dragged a '56 Chevy 210 wagon out of the California desert in the early '80s. It was stripped, nothing under the hood, cheesy buckets and a headliner full of mice. Did a lot of fixing, even put air conditioning in it. I'd have to look for before and after pictures in a photo album somewhere around here Remember those? Probably no pics, is my bet. Everybody thought I was crazy for buying it. Oh, to be 30 again!

Yeah, I'm with you on that!!! I'm 60. I can dream and think through all the things I want to do to my 2 pickups, but doing them is not the same...I refuse to give up though!!! Things are coming together financially for me to get things done in a better fashion...My 67 C10 will be first.

Re: "Saved from the Scrap Yard" thread

I found this sinking into a little old lady's yard, a 1972 C20 Highlander with 25,000 actual miles, not registered in 20 years - after a few conversations she sold it to me. I gave it a good going through and now it makes a good DD and workhorse.

I don’t know if it was headed to the scrap yard but I’ve had my doubts throughout the process.
