Re: Crash's Roof over Lake House Build

Trusses are up…

Thanks Sean and Marcus...

Some of the bracing..

Next step are the roofs over the decks.

Not sure yet how I am going to attach the rafters to the short wall.. I am sure I will come up with something…

Re: Crash's Roof over Lake House Build

very nice! it does look sturdy & well built. been in the trade my whole life, seen some real haphazard stuff over the years.
i have something similar, but a lot smaller (12x26, right now i'm parking my quad hauler under it), i put pretty much the whole thing together with Simpson strong-tie connectors. they have thousands of designs, should have something to connect your rafters to your wall.
see you have cross-strapped your trusses, going with a metal roof?
what kind, duraclad, pro lok, etc?...

thanks dieseldawg... I have some truss ties, I hope to install them this weekend. Trying to decide if I want to use screws or nails. I guess I should use 10d nails, 3 in for the top plate and 1 1/2 for the trusses.

I am thinking about using Panel Loc-Plus 26 g metal. I am trying to figure the trim and soffet stuff first. I want to order the trim at the same time I order the metal. I think I will be installing guttering, but not sure if will need trim under it.. any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

i like to use screws as much as possible, way better bite & a lot easier to take apart when your wife changes her mind!
dont just hang your roofing over the edge into the gutter. through capillary action, water will run back up the overhang & run down & eventually rot out your fascia boards.
we put a drip edge flashing along the bottom of the roof

the flat part goes under your roofing, & try to get the "drip" edge IN to the gutter. that little kick on the bottom almost eliminates the capillary action. you should be able to get this from your panel loc supplier, if not, a roofing co. or sheet metal shop.
only other thing you might want to look at is your trailer's furnace pipe. don't know what your weather is like there, but if you have that furnace going in the winter pumping all that heat under your cold metal roof, it will condensate.
you can put underlay under your panel loc, extend your stack threw your new roof, or install a few vents on your new roof.
good choice with the roofing. whatever brand, standing seam/hidden fastner metal is THE way to go. a little more, but you just eliminated the no. 2 problem with metal roofs, leaking & loose screws, plus it don't look so much like barn metal

Beautiful day to be outside working on a project like that. Hope you get a few more like this so you can finish it up.

You are right Steve... I too hope I can get a few more like today, but the last weather I listened to was Friday, and they were talking lots of snow this weekend.. Hopefully they are wrong..

Re: Crash's Roof over Lake House Build

Update.. I am almost finished with all the framing. I still need to figure out how I am going to framing up for the soffits.
Front Porch is complete…

Installed 62 Truss ties.. Still need 15 more... Also installed all but four of the ½” carriage bolts that attach the Headers to the Post.

Working on getting the metal ordered today. Still haven’t figured out all of the trim, or how I will do the soffit framing.

If I lived in your area, I would give you a good price on a 24' x 24' addition. Even in my area, contractors try to make retirement type money for every project. I even have to check my partners numbers before we submit bids.

Hey Mark, beautiful job your doing.

Re: Crash's Roof over Lake House Build

Update time.. Got the metal in today.. 3800 lbs.. it didn’t seem like that much just looking at it.. I got started on the lower rear deck.. 12’ sheets of 26 gauge is heavier than it looks, but I was able to get them where they need to be. Not sure how am going to get the next set for the upper deck in place.. Hopefully my son can come help..

So far I am really happy with it.. Still have a lot to do before I am finished..

Re: Crash's Roof over Lake House Build

Took a couple of days of vacation while the weather was good. Made some progress, it is still a slow process be yourself… First I thought I would show a few pictures of the metal right after delivery. 3326 pounds..

So far I have installed 35 panels.. still have many more to go. I have all 3 decks covered and almost a 1/3 of the main roof completed.

Some of the necessities needed to work with these larger panels by yourself..

I hope to continue in the near future… Maybe Thursday..

I admire anyone that can plan things out like you did. It'll be interesting to see how your utilities change in the summer.

Looks real good Mark.

Thanks Steve... I really enjoy challenges like this.. I am not sure how much this will help with the utilities, some for sure, the big impact will be the ability to use the deck areas more than I have been able to in the past.

Nice progress Mark! I like the helpers you made. Sometimes you have to be creative to get stuff done by yourself. I would help you if I could.
