The FUZZ

Hey everyone I'm going to start a thread to track the build of my 1967 C10 LWB "FUZZY1". I have already started, and missed some pics, but I'm going to go from this point.

History on my truck:
My Great Uncle Harold bought this truck brand new in 1967, as his first new off the lot vehicle. Harold was refered to as "Fuzzy" for a few reasons, his name was Harry, he was bald, and as teen during the Great Depression he raised and sold rabbits for money and food. My mom was very close to Uncle Fuzzy, and spent a lot of time with him growing up. When he died there was no will for his belongings, so my mom purchased the truck at his estate sale with the intent of giving it to me. Well the truck has had some rough times, as Uncle Fuzzy lost his eyesight he had the tendancy of rubbing various things with the front fenders. I've had the truck in my possession now for 11 years, and in that time it's been caught in a flash flood and parked for several years off and on. Now it's my daily driver with the 250 and 3 spd, and is still kicking with just 98,601 original miles.

The project:
I'm going for a tasteful restomod, and it will be similar to the Holley Truck when complete, and it is staying as my daily driver. I'm getting ready for a 5.3 swap, and I want a 5 or 6 speed, but it looks like a 4l60 is in my near future and budget (my first child will be born in the next few days). Sold my 2003 Mustang GT a few days ago and have about $4500 to work with right now. I just put a CPP 2.5/4 drop with springs and adjustable pan hard, front disc conversion, and temporary wheels tires this weekend. Here are what pics I have on my work computer, looking forward to the journey.

Re: The FUZZ

I'll take some more pictures tomorrow and get them posted up so the whole truck can be in one picture.

Re: The FUZZ

I got my hands on a NV3500 out of a Silverado Regency RST today, so it looks like I'll get to bang my own gears. I looked up as much information as I could on them and they are spec'd fairly weak at 300lbft max torque. I found a couple people running them behind a few different trucks without issues one 454 truck and a few 4BT cummins trucks. Hopefully the trans will hold up to the LQ9 I'm trying to get. Getting pretty antsy about 3 weeks until massive drivetrain overhaul.

Re: The FUZZ

So talked to my buddy, and the yard only has one 6.0 drivetrain and they are wanting $650 more than a 5.3 drivetrain and that is not in my budget right now, so 5.3 here I come. On a side note got a free parts truck yesterday, 68 Long Fleet, only problem is that it's located 700 and some miles away from me. I'll get to see it when I change duty stations.

Yeah doubling the horses and adding 2 more gears is going to add to the fun-2-drive aspect, all while getting better mileage.

Re: The FUZZ

So I'm laying around the hospital right now, just added a new passenger to my truck on Friday morning, Emmalynn Marie. So using some free internet I got my Blazer gas tank kit and my Pacesetter Long Tube F-body headers ordered. Oh and to keep it all straight as to not decieve someone, I'm having a local guy doing the motor swap and wiring harness for me. My current job/loaction doesn't provide me with the time/equipment to do it personally. So I'll let anyone in the West Louisiana/East Texas area know if he does a good job. Well I paid for the motor/trans/pcm/harness today, and it will be picked up tomorrow. So everything is moving along pretty well. If anyone has any tricks, tips, or learning lessons from installing the Blazer tank kit, i'd appreciate the heads up.

Re: The FUZZ

So I know it's been a few years since I put any information on here. Well back in 2012 my truck went into the shop for the swap and was there for a few months until it was time for me to PCS for the army. Well to keep with the tradition of set backs I recieved a worthless 5.3 and nv3500 in the bed of the truck my frame cut and welded with homemade mounts and a bunch of random worthless parts. So Fuzzy is sitting in Kansas engineless but for once in his life he is sheltered. I'm in Korea and he's nestled quite snuggly in the garage.

I now have a TBI 350 and a 700r4 sitting my garage that have about 150k+ miles on them and they need some love, so plans are to rebuild those and toss them in the chassis, along with immediately chopping the frame down to swb (this is something I planned to do but once I get home and have to actually use my garage, Fuzzy has to be shorter).

So many set backs, but we'll just keep driving on. Now my daughter who was pictured is 2 and half and I have a son to add to my list of loved ones, who will be 1 next month.
