Smile Too many years on the build. 70 K5

I have had this 1970 K5 since 1970. My family bought it new and it only has 26,000 original miles so I thought I would have it fixed up and repainted and it became a much bigger project than I ever thought. I have about 20% left to do and it is finished. Probably a couple of months.

Re: Too many years on the build. 70 K5

I have gone through the rear end, O/H the trans and bought the 350 V8 from Jegs. It has a mild 290 HP. I just wanted a driver nothing fancy. I could use some rt frt seat brackets. I only have one hinge in the frt of the seat and the male latch. The others have been misplaced. Also a inside spare tire mount would be nice. I am going to put Vintage A/C also.

What condition was the body when you started. Any metal replacement?

Re: Too many years on the build. 70 K5

The rt side rocker panel was replaced because there was rust on the frt area by the cowl. The inner fender skirts are being replaced because of rust at the frt by the core support. I didn't have any dents on the body. The double walled top rear hatch is cracked at the handle are but can be repaired easily.

Re: Too many years on the build. 70 K5

For some reason the pictures came out looking more orange/red than the red that is on the Blazer. No offense to Chevy lovers but the color is a Porsche Red. I didn't want to go with the original factory red.

Awesome K5! Even better that it's been in the family. My first K5 was passed down to me from my father but I had to sell it for financial reasons. I still wish that I kept that thing. Yours is coming along beautifully.

Re: Too many years on the build. 70 K5

I am going to install black carpet and of course the red seat belts will have to go. The interior trim will be black when finished. I am pretty sure I will go with Vintage Air for A/C.

Re: Too many years on the build. 70 K5

I am currently installing the Vintage Air (do they call it factory fit?) in place of the old factory AC. So far, so good. I like the fact that it takes up less room in the engine compartment and the more up to date technology (like the smaller Sanden compressor.

Very nice! Always good to see a fellow South Texan. We could definitely use some more "before" pics.
