Must II IFS w/manual R&P - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'd like to hear from AD truck owners that have a Must II IFS w/a manual R&P.
Is the truck steering ok with manual steering or does it need PS?

I had one on my first truck and wish I had with power. I drove ok once it got going but would have been more enjoyable.

sAVE YOUR LUNCH MONEY AND PUT POWER r&p, you will be very happy you did.
I had a 54 that had a non power r&p and it was not fun to drive

Well it looks like PS is the way to go. I just did not like the AD trk I drove that had PS. It was way too sensitive. That's why I was thinking manual.

The sensitivity issue has been discussed before on this forum. F@rd racks use about 700-800psi and the GM pump puts out about 1200psi and the excess pressure makes them twitchy as mine was when I got it.

Power for sure but match the pump to the rack ford pump to ford rack!! other wise you will hear your gm (much higher psi) working all the time! even with the psi reducer

not sure what's out there for gm but what came with my engine was gm. i hear that pump working all the time. i assume because i have a pressure reducer that is esentally a smaller hole. i haven't heard of a ford pump that has been converted to the gm engine. but i'm sure it can be done by the right person...

Richard....yes, I have a TCI Must II IFS installed. I also have the T-bird R&P installed, but not hocked up.

Ok ,I did have the original R&P but they seemed to wear out quick and was getting harder to find rebuilt ones. Last summer I put on a R&P from Flaming river and kept the GM pump with the re-stricter.
They do sell a pump plus brackets to fit a sbc that is the right pressure. They mainly feel twitchy because IMHO those light mustangs had tight quick steering and now we put them on fat overweight trucks. PS or manual if it is right it is still quite responsive and does take some getting used to.
