Well I finally did it ...

When I installed the 4-link and rear end 2 years ago I had planned to do small tubs in the box to clear the disc brake calipers that hit the box so I could get it to sit down.
I looked around and found a pair of bolt on box tubs from a mid 60's chev. They were too wide so I cut a 4" section from them to make them narrower.
Had them painted and there they sat for over a year. Well the weather has been warmer than normal and with a bit of heat in the garage I went at it.
Of course since I was doing this I thought I'd refinish the floor boards as well. Now the gas gauge was not working so I went at that at the same time.
Being painted had to take a bit more care. Lots of masking tape and triple measurment.

Here are few pictures and end result.

doesn't look like it but the boards were showing their age (8 yrs)

hardest part was cutting out the painted bed sides. It does not get cleaned under here very often...

I was not happy with the look of the tub against the box side so I used some fender welt between them.

Re: Well I finally did it ...

last few pictures ...

off of kijiji I picked up a set of rally wheels 15 x 10 with 295/50 15" with the tags still on the them. Had the porta whites put on to see how they will work with the lower profile tires. Fills up the wheel well nicely and got rid of the 2.5" spacers...

Re: Well I finally did it ...

Looks good, how much more difficut would it have been to put the tubs under the wood floor? I ask because I will be tubbing mine putting wood floor.

You could do it that way just a lot more fitting of the floor boards. The factory strait sides have their tubs sitting on top of the floor boards and have more fitted tubs to acomodate the bed strips.

Re: Well I finally did it ...

Nice work looks really good. I have the same issue with the calipers on my build but I'm still not ready to tube my box sides.

Thanks for this info, I didn't know that it's that way from the factory, plus it looks like it's a lot more work to get them under the boards.

I think if you can find a set of factory 58-59 fleetside tubs to work with it will look even better.
