If it wasn't 4WD I'd be interested, too.

Raise the price and attract serious buyers. When you list a vehicle too cheap you have people thinking it's not as good as the asking price suggests. I had my '71 tow truck listed at $2,500 a few different times. Each time I got a lot of e-mail responses, mostly "What is your best price" when they hadn't even looked at it. Finally, I listed it at $3,500 and it sold right away... to a flipper from upstate NY!

I am not seeing the price of a true classic going down at all. This car is post war era, not a 67-72 GM truck. You won't find 5 or more to choose from every time you go to look. And it's not just the car pulled out of a barn after 50 years. It's a start on a modern cruiser with a value in the work that has been done. It's an easy start to a project.

I would get it running, if at all possible.

Re: My Poor Ol Caddy

This looks like a nice project, I am assuming it's the fastback.
I was looking for one of these many years ago when found a 37 Olds. I should have never sold that one along with my 56 Buick and the list goes on. Lol.
When you pull it out please post some more pictures.

I owned this before CG. Here are some I have.
The first two are when I got the car in 1972. In the back ground you will see my new 1972 Cheyanne C-20. The last two are when CG took ownership.

Re: My Poor Ol Caddy

Yep, Sedanette is the fastback, as people might say since the mid-60s. I grew up hearing Torpedo back. My dad had a '49 Buick Sedanette.

What year is that, a '41? 40/41 stand alone at the beginning of the Series 62s. And they were both different. '40s pretty much carried the earlier look over to the new design while the '41 was a sign of what was to come. That car has been stored for 45 years or more? This car is something special.

It was parked in 1948 when my uncle bought a new Caddy. The car has been parked more than driven.

Beautiful cars for sure. My father had a black 48 Sedanette. There is an old picture of my mom and dad on their honeymoon standing next to it. I wish I could find it.

Re: My Poor Ol Caddy

That's when I remember doing the clips and such. The thing with this car is it's history is known from new. It's had three owners in 77 years, with the present owner being the first out of the family, but a friend of the original owner's son... the second owner.

Nice pictures. I have a feeling this one is going up to Arlington if you decide to sell it.

Re: My Poor Ol Caddy

This thread is as far as Ill go for "listing it" here on the board, even though that wasn't what I was thinking when I posted. So if anyone wants to come up with the asking price, off it goes haha! I do agree now that putting it outside with a for sale sign might end up problematic.

I have a million other things going on right now and have decided until I have time to actually devote to some sort of sale its going to have to wait.

Good thing about posting stuff on the board like this, it makes a person think a little more, less chance of going off half cocked.

This is true. Put it out there and while us keyboard experts blow our hot air you can let it marinade a while. Might even get some help out of the hot air . It's also true you will want to be able to tend the sale with some level of devotion.

Yup. Though maybe we've educated him (possibly at our own expense) about not just giving his stuff away.

If I want to sell something, sometimes I just let my wife deal with the buyers. She's the biggest skinflint you've ever seen! Gets it from her dad, for sure. I've learned a lot about not knuckling under on price from her. I'm (was) a lot like CG- if I want to sell it, I just want it gone. But you have to treat what you're selling with more respect than that, or the vultures will just pick more meat off the bones, and you'll lose even more money. Lose is the main word of my last sentence- just remember how much time and money you have invested in a project, and don't dismiss that as nothing, just because it was only your labor. That doesn't mean you have some crazy Barret Jackson hot-cha-cha vehicle, but just be aware of the real value.

I know which ones of you guys are actual keyboard experts. I also know which ones don't seem to actually read the things I posted LOL! But whatever, I know how to separate the wheat from the chafe here on the board. I'm hardly a young buck that hasn't been buying and selling old cars and trucks since the mid 70's. Its how we made walking around money back in the day. Ive long since tired of the game of buying and selling though, so I suppose that's a fault I have.

Anyway, Tim I consider you a keyboard expert and a real life expert. I always respect your opinions because I know they come from experience and also because you and I agree on close (but not all) to everything lol.

Maybe I don't like the idea of agreeing . No, we do see how to go about things much the same. And you have pretty darn good taste

Might want to look into some one selling it for you ,,like a classic car salesship..all you would have to do is guide the hauler truck to the barn and they load it .

I have a friend who sold his 68 chevy truck this way from a sales place in Vacca Ville California and the truck went back east somewhere for the price of $27,000 ,, he told me he told them what he wanted and they could have what ever is above hs price .. He lived across the river from Longview Washington ..

That car can sell itself whenever you are ready. This isn't high dollar turn key dealership material. The car's history and friend connection does more coming from you than as another little old school teacher drove to school and church dealer story.
