useless mirror

i just installed these factory style mirrors,the drivers side is fine but i can't see much of anything on the pass side if i try turning it in the head hits the arm.i have to turn them upright to see a little better,is it just me or is that the way they are?

That's the way they are. They look nice but are useless.

That is just how they are. Did you use factory hole locations or mount them up yourself? I ask because the passengers side was mounted just a little bit further back from the door front edge than the driver's side from the factory, I think to help with the sight picture. I don't remember the exact specs, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

I hear ya, you get used to driving new cars with big mirrors then you get into your old truck and realize that technology doesn't look as cool but sure works good. I have a convex passenger mirror I got from Brothers and it doesn't make much of a difference either.

both my mirrors have been broken off and now its part of the Patina. cops pulled me ove and wrote me a fix it ticket. I told him I dont live in the past....its al behind me. he laughed.

Most people adjust the side view mirrors so they see what's behind them. As the name says they're for seeing what's in the blind spots on the sides of the vehicle.

I know a lot of people want like these mirrors but my truck is driven everyday and I drive a lot of interstate driving so mirrors are a must have for me. I did away with the vent windows and had sport mirrors installed. I can see fine out of both and it's nice changing lanes on the interstate with out having to look behind me everytime too!

Yeah, the standard mirrors are barely adequate but look nice on a slick truck. I always called them car mirrors. Truck mirrors were optional and you can see just as well out of those mirrors on any modern vehicle. Back then, most cars only had a driver side mirror. Passenger side were optional, except Cadillacs and select others.

They do make an original style mirror with slightly curved glass. I bought one for mine after my original broke. It helps a little but is still bad compared to any newer style mirror.

Just installed a set of the LED turn signal mirrors on my 71 and I think they're pretty cool. The passengers mirror is pretty useless for the driver. These things are a pita to install, definitely a two person operation.

Can you post a better picture of it up close? Where did you get them also?

Andy4639 that is the only one I took after installing but they look just like the originals, you would never know they were LED until you signal. I got them from Summit Racing $49 per mirror with free shipping.

here'a pic of what the sport mirror should look like form inside the cab (courtesy of Sameyrasmea's 72 c10, one of my all time favorite trucks). If you can't see the mirror, it's probably too far forward (as 1972K5 alluded to) Pax side was mounted slightly further back to be able to be seen behind the vent window frame. If you don't like how much you can see in it, then that's just how they are.
