Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

Hi, a newbie here with a 70 K5 4WD Blazer. I'd like to take a shot at making my own side panels... does anyone have a pattern available so I don't have to try from scratch? Thanks to all for the great information on this site!

$459. That is increadable. I was thinking $250, but $459 + $28 for shipping? C'mon. What's up with that? I don't get it. Why so pricey?
Im going full custom. Ill make my own thank you. The exterior will look semi Original with subtle updates, but the interior is a different story.

Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

The side panels showed up. I'm impressed. The vinyl on the side panels is soft. There must be padding behind it. I'm not too crazy about putting holes in them to mount them , but we'll see how that goes. I just about ready. I have new body mounts, new carpet and new side panels. Two amps. I have to make a new (look like stock) console with with a down firing 10" sub enclosure and I'll be set. Thinking of laying down a layer of Lizard Skin after I pull the old carpet. Here are a few pic of the panel that showed up yesterday. I'll post pics when the interior is finished. Trying to juggle house renovation and Blazer restoration. The house is winning.

I used a very thin plywood (Luan?). Just rough cut a piece so it will fit down over the wheel well and use a compass to outline the wheel well. Then trim the top and the ends. One template will work for both sides, just invert.

Upon further inspection, I would say the replacement panels I just received are nicer than the originals. The stitching real, not fake.

It's been a real long time since you posted this, but I'm considering taking my perfect conditioned paneling from green to black. How well did the vinal paint hold up/look?

There's your answer. I don't particularly care about looking 100% original, I just want mine to look nice and be functional, so I plan on building my own.

Any time an item is a "got-to-have-it" item, it's going to cost more.

Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

I hear you about the "got to have" syndrome. I bought a set of parchment panels that were (are) beautiful. But I had to physically force myself to practically cut one in half to fit around my old Hickey auxiliary gas tank. Now that its done and in I have no regrets.

Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

Digging up this old post from the dead. I sold the Blazer around 2013 and repurchased the same Blazer back in 2016. Fortunately the interim owner took great care of the Blazer while he had it.

I installed the new reproduction panels about 15 years ago using velcro. They have held up great but would like to return back to stock appearance fastening the repo panels using screws. I discarded the screws but have attached photos of the old panels with screws along with a photo of the new panel held on with velcro as reference.

Can anyone with original panels or screws from a 69-72 CST confirm if the the screws listed below are the correct style used by GM when mounting the CST panels?

Screw Size : #8
Length : 7/8"
Head Style : Phillips Oval, SEMS
Point Type : A/AB
Head Size : #6
Washer : Flush
Finish : Chrome

Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

John, hope all is well with you and the boys during this holiday season.
I get all my hardware from mcmaster carr the next day, those screws seem to be correct AFAIR, but aren't there also support brackets as well?

Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

Thanks, Jim. The family doing great, thanks. I hope yours is well too. I ordered the flush washer screws in chrome from the first link in my previous post. I'll post pics when they arrive. The brackets are already there, just never attached the panels to them using screws.

Glad your family is well......

Just thought you would get them sooner, if ordered from NJ.

Re: $459 for rear CST side panels?

Thanks, Jim.

I've attached a photo for folks debating on using screws or Velcro. These photos show with Velcro. The part of the panel facing the tailgate has gap- I'm hoping the screws help the panels sit flush and restore the original look.

I can honestly say the color on the panels have held up well for 15 years, including the real stitching. The stitching on the originals were part of the mold, fake, meant to appear real.

The photos show the 14 year old olive carpet from ACC faded turning brown. Last year I replaced all the carpet and pulled it from the wheel wells to show the original paint as they supposedly came from the factory this way.

Looking forward to getting the screws soon.

The screws arrived and appear to be what I recall the original panels screws to look like.

Here is a decent photo of another original CST panel that can be used as reference for correct screw hole layout/locations.
