How to fix door jam rust?

Hey guys, my 84' is 100% rust free except for the door jams. I am 17 and this is my first truck and im trying to do the body and paint work myself (ive already been able to remove some dents myself) but when it comes to rust im not too sure what to do.

If anybody could please give me some tips on how to fix this rust it will be greatly appreciated!!

Re: How to fix door jam rust?

With rust the only cure is to remove it. Products like Por-15 are simple band-aid cover up jobs. They don't fix, cure, solve rust they cover it up.

My guess, is that moisture got behind those weld on drip rails and started to rust the metal behind the drip rail.

IMO, the best way would be to remove those drip rails because there WILL BE rust hiding underneath them. You likely will also find some pinholes and thin metal. Cut out the rotten metal and weld in new metal.

If that sounds like more work then you care to tackle, then I would use a spot blaster and blast that rust away.

I have no problem trying to weld in new metal but is there a patch panel I would need to buy? Or would I make one my self?
