Project Picacho

Well after owning Picacho for 3 yrs now he is do a serious attitude adjustment!

For now I am going to just steal some parts from some other trucks, to get him to Goodguys a little lower - 4/6 static, with the thoughts of putting him on air for the Spring

I have a 72 that is not getting the attention she deserves right now, so I thought I would take a few parts from her, a few parts from Project CST and get Picacho a little lower.

He will be riding on a new set of Boss 338's 20x8.5 in the front and 20x10 in the rear. I am thinking 245/40 & 295/40. I may go 255 in the front but I want to plan for his next attitude adjustment now!

This is how he sits now.

I found some drop spindles on criagslist and was able to grab them today. Not a bad deal either!!

then I was able to go visit Project CST today and get the parts off that I am "borrowing" for now! Thanks to Jason for letting me theive his truck.

I figure this was enough robbing for today!

It looks like J - installed some new sheet metal. Nice!

Re: Project Picacho

Thanks guys!

I wasn't able to get everything done in time for the Nov. GG show, so once I realized it wasn't going to happen I would just be doing a lot of double work - I just said - screw it!

So it is already late Jan. and I want to get some stuff done on this truck!!!!

MY NEW AND IMPROVED PLAN!

-Porterbuilt Staqe 2 Rearend - probably economy version
-4 wheel Disc brakes - been looking at the CPP 12" rotors with the Wilwood - D52 calipers.
-Frontend - I haven't totally decided if I am going to keep and rebuild the stock arms and go cups/plates - or go with the PB tubular arms.

Either way my goal is to have this thing rolling on air bags prior to March 11th.

Anybody have any advice/input with:

Stock arms running bags vs. tubular arms?

Brakes - I really like the look of the Wilwoods - but not to sure about losing that ebrake?!?!?

Love to hear any input! Thanks Ronnie

Look - its a 6 lug 72!!! - Switched 6 lug over so I could wheel her around!

I ended up shooting it with PB Blaster, Clamping it in a vise, And using
an eighteen inch crescent wrench, With a three foot cheater bar on the
end of that.

Good idea on the PB Blaster - I will squirt some in there tomorrow before I roll to work!

I had that damn thing in the vise and used my 15" crescent. My wrench was to fat at the end to get my cheater on it - to cheat

I was pulling down on that thing so hard the entire work bench was ready to fall over!

Hey, howz it going? Hope your build is moving along! I will get you some updates soon - I will be getting with Nate next week so I should be getting some parts to start adding soon.

Right now the front end is tore off and I am trying to decide what brakes to go with.

Thanks Ronnie

Ronnie- looks like you're making good progress and I like what you have planned for this thing. You should look into the mcgaughys front and rear brake if you haven't already. They are awesome and you still get an ebrake in the rear. Nate should be able to hook you up!

Lookin good!

Funny thing is I had a front and rear set that were 5 x 4.75, but some dude from Gilbert bought them. Then sold the fronts & last I heard he is trying to get re-motivated on his project!

Another thing that I am trying to factor in along with cost is that this truck really isn't a performance machine. It has a 307, with a 3-speed - so it will be more of a cruiser then High Perormance. I really like the "Big Brakes" - but when I factor in the cost??? Does that make sense.

I really like the look of the red calipers behind the grey rims(Boss 338's) I am going to run. And because i am going to run these rims - i will have step the front rotors to fit the rims. i am sure you have or heard about this as it has been discussed in great depth on this site. I like the rims and couldn' beat the price.

I guess if I really have the rear e-brake - I will go with the CPP set up or CaptainFab set up.

Thanks for the input - i appreciate it! Ronnie

Ahhhh you dont say.... WOW! That is pretty funny man Well do you regret selling those brakes now? The rears are still on the truck but the fronts came off like a week after i put them on. I wanted the red calipers too! My new front brake setup KILLED my truck fund so ive kinda backed off of it for while.

If your build is for "cruising" purposes then captfab brakes will definitely do the job. And a red D52 wilwood caliper upgrade should give you just enough "cool" factor as well.

[QUOTE=c10seconds;4448825] Well do you regret selling those brakes now?

Not really because they were 5x4.75 - I probably could have traded them in on 5x5 - but it's all good! Glad they went to good use

Re: Project Picacho

what arms did you end up using in the front? If you are on a budget the stock arms from a square body work fine. I used them, I just cut off the bump stop bracket to gain clearance.

I haven't decided yet - I planned on using the fronts off a 72. I might go tubular - not sure yet. I'll keep ya posted - thanks
