Re: anybody got pics??

Don't know if it will help but mine is 74 K10, TH350, NP 203 on stock 59 springs. Required a 4" lift block in the back to get it level. I would assume the bigger axles still have the same spring width and spring mounting configuration? Steering set up will be an issue, but for what you want to do you will probably go with cross steering setup anyway. I setup my tranny and engine location using the stock front driveline to locate it front to back. It put the SBC dist about 2" off the firewall (HEI is tighter fit but works). I adjusted the vertical so the tranny bellhousing has about 1" clearance at the closest point. I did not need to modify the firewall or floor, infact ran a flat plate over the trans. I did not remove the stock crossmember between the front spring rear shackles to keep a tension brace there. Makes for a tight tranny pan fit and needed to make a two piece converter inspection cover. The tranny/transfer bracket ended up 4" below the frame, I just welded flat plate to the stock one and bolted it thru the frame. Rear driveline was shortened (donor truck was a long bed, mine is short fleetside). My build thread shows lots of detail photos. I would like to see how yours goes together, I figure if I ever need to replace an axle I will upgrade too.

Re: anybody got pics??

I just checked out your build on Pirate. Way cool! I had a '57 1 ton Napco utility bed which I sold years ago. It had a Clark 5 spd (no o.d.) and the rest was all stock except for the 350 which also had an HEI. Yours is going to be pretty awesome with all the hardware that you have for it. As far as moving the engine forward, I never had to. Im running HEI on a BBC too. No fittment problems here. Im going to join Pirate so I can check out your build! BTW what transmission came with the '56?

Re: anybody got pics??

Thanks dude enjoy it and the only reason I'm moving the engine ahead is for the nv4500 to align properly in the tranny tunnel of the cab so I don't have to relocate the cab mounts and it was a 4 Spd sm420 with a divorced spicer 23 tcase

Re: anybody got pics??

Yeah mine had the divorced 23 also. Funny thing was, it was factory twin sticked and that always annoyed me, now it's the rage for the crawler guys. My '63 has a divorced T221 thats getting a NV4500 installed in front of it. I've heard good things about the Dana300 although never in fullsize trucks. Is it the same as an Atlas? How does it compare to the 205? Man I miss that truck that I had. It was an ex line truck with utility bins. If I recall correctly, it had a ho72 rear and possibly front axle too untill the kingpin sheared on the freeway. Dana 60 after that.

Re: anybody got pics??

The atlas is based off the Dana 300 mainly came in jeeps and hold up great in full sizes aslong as ur not jumping it 10ft in the air or bashing rocks then you would need an atlas haha mine already has 4:1 gear kit from jb in it along with the HD outputs and twin sticked pretty much a atlas but only costs 1600$ not 2500$ :P.

As for the 205 the d300 has a better low range and allows front digs where the 205
Has a 1.95 low range and cannot do front end digs and they do make the 3:1 kit for them but they are very expensive to build up but very bullet proof. The one draw back to the d300 is sometimes the cases can crack under heavy power and load but stak makes a full aluminum machined case for them to upgrade that :P
