The Draglink has quite an angle to it. That is one of the main reasons for the poor driving. I'm surprised it doesn't have a dropped draglink or a dropped pitman arm with 8 inches of lift. Most front 8 inch springs will ride rough though.
That truck is so clean compared to our "rust-belt" trucks around here!
It has this pitman arm...

So seeing that even with lift springs in the front w/ stock shackles the shackles are nearly touching the frame, wouldn't it be a good idea to get longer shackles for the front?

Because on my stock suspension the front shackles are nearly touching the frame too...
It looks like the springs do hit the frame occasionally...the powder coating is a little marked up.

I'm a little worried that 4" lift with 33" tires will look a little awkward.

Thanks!

I think you bought the wrong truck to be your driver......not very practical at all, but man is it awesome!

Re: Lift Pics

that is a stock pitman arm. looks like you have a raised steering arm. id at least get a drop pitman arm an htat might help some. take the swaybar off. your leaf springs are like mine an have the shim built onto them. im not sure how to cure the rubbing issue but if you put longer shackles on it you could create more iaaues

Re: Lift Pics

If you are looking to make a lifted truck drive well you had better get over that thought. I have had lots of lifted trucks and driven tons more and none of them drove great,You just have to get used to it wandering a little. I personally do not care how a vehicle rides or drives as long as it was built well and looked cool as hell and you have a very cool truck. And I would not take the sway bar off if you are worried about how your truck handles, it will suck with out it. PS my wife used to drive our last 86 lifted eveywhere rain or shine summer or winter on 37 12.50 super swampers.

Re: Lift Pics

First what you are going to need to do is get some lift shackles to give you truck the additional flex that it needs up front. Your front stock shackles are going to make contact with the frame when ever it flexes. That will make the ride harsh cause your hitting the frame. You only need an extra 1-2" which will raise the ride height the from 1/2-1" up front. http://www.hill4wheeldrive.com/shackles.html

Secondly, it's hard to tell if you have the lifted steering arm. If you do it's only good for 4-6" lift. If not get one and you will want to add a lift draglink to that combination as well. The draglink will give you another 4" of lift to get you to your 8" lift and should put your steering geometry back in spec.

Or you can go the more costly route and go with crossover steering. It will function much better but will require more modifications to the steering and suspension than you may not want to make.

Re: Lift Pics

You need to go crossover steering. If that truck was a 1 ton originally, it has a taller frame than 1/2 and 3/4 tons do. So whatever lift springs you put on, say 4", the truck will have 6" of lift. The frames are about 2" taller on a 1 ton.

My old truck didn't have a swaybar on it, and drove fine. My crew doesn't have one either, and not gonna put one on. So I can't take an offramp at 70, big deal. Only thing I noticed was a little body roll. Not enough to worry bout IMO.

How does it ride with those mud terrains?
And how does the rough country lift ride?

Re: Lift Pics

well...i still need to put new sway bar bushings in it...but it rides ten times better than it did before, but my front springs were shot and it needed shocks. but those mud terrains ride really well. and they dont hum down the highway at all...really really queit. and they have alot of bite...i was pulling out some little trees in my back yard the other day...good times..lol id really recommend them. great tire...and the lift was pretty easy to put on. i did it in a couple days after work in my driveway.

Very nice. My truck rides like a tank too cuz my front springs are shot as well as the shocks. And people have always told me that rough country lifts ride really rough but i've never had a reason to believe it.

And did you have to get extended brake lines?

Re: Lift Pics

ya its amazing what the front springs will do...and the steering stablizer...havent got the extended brake lines yet but i am very soon...it cuts it real close with a 4 inch lift and the brake lines...i havent been able to go off road yet...but as soon as i get those brake lines im off to the mudd!!!! the rough country isnt too bad...got to remember these trucks have the straight axles and not the independent front suspension...but compaired to what it was before i got the truck...huge difference...even my ol lady notices...she said still bumpy tho...i can live with that lol
