61 Short Box Fleetside Fuel Tank Relocation

To all,

I'm building a 61 Short Box Fleetside (with a 65 nose). I'm now trying to decide what the best set up would be for an underbed rear fuel tank? I'm planning on going with a 2000 6.0, 4L80e. Fuel injected or carburated. I'm still not sure but I am looking for any tips, suggestions, sources of information as to how to set up a safe underbed tank. Or a source for one. Brackets? etc. I'm at a point where I'd like to fit it and make any frame modifications as needed. I greatly appreciate any and all guidance !!

Thanks, Dave

Re: 61 Short Box Fleetside Fuel Tank Relocation

I bought a $200 Blazer tank for my 65 stepside short box from Brother's I think. When I mocked it up, the tank hung down so low in the back it was too visible for my liking and I feared it might get damaged. I ended up spending about $450 for an aluminum tank that fits much better. Just my 2 cents worth.

I used a 65 mustang tank tucked up in between the frame rails

I used the universal tank from Tanks INC. which comes with straps to attach it with.

A '60-'62 frame does not accommodate a gas tank exactly the same as the '63 and up frames do.
