I have done 1 really nice paint job and about 12 - 20 footers on drag cars that really didnt matter.... Im going to try to do a really good one this time. I have a good friend that does real good body work, if I can get him to help me do everything up to blocking, I think I will be alright. Right now I feel comfortable enough to do the spray, I got a good gun and use of a nice updraft booth. More than likely I will shoot underneath the hood and fenderwells , ect and see how its looking.... Then I will decide if I get my buddie in to do the rest..... I have a real problem with doing projects, when I get them finished Im tired of them. The build is the best for me, its my release, my zen....Its the journey is whats best for me. The finished project is almost a bonus for me. But thats really based on all the drag cars I have done... So it might be a little different with a driver and not something that has to be trailered everywhere I go....

Heres my 496 8.1L Vortec Crate engine sitting in the garage. It still will go it to the truck but it may be a while since the 396 in the truck is running pretty good. Its running real rich right now, but the guy I got it from said that the truck has been sitting for a long time and he was honest enough to say he knew nothing about engines and stuff. Its got a crappy Edlebrock carb on it now, I got about 5 real good Holleys in the garage that will fix that up. Its the body work and locating parts is whats going to be the hard part for me...
Love the "redneck" part of your name, I come from a long line of west Texas oil field workers so it kinda feels like home...

I dunno man - that paints just bad enough it's cool. You just need to call it "patina" and people go ape for it.

Very nice score there!

Re: SCORED!!!! Finally after 6 months of looking..

also- Now that I think about it (too many thought rolling through my head) I have ordered a couple of parts catalogs like LMC (i heard theyre not real good) and another one.... name excapes me right now.... But I would like to know ball park prices for a complete set of outer body trim (top and bottom), and new door panels and emblems and front lowering springs, front end parts, ect, and the better places to order from. On second part forget about the ball park prices, just some good places to order from...

Thanks guys, I can tell this is a great bunch of members already......
oh- also I read about donating to the site, whats a good amount to contribute?

Re: SCORED!!!! Finally after 6 months of looking..

The "standard" member donation/fee is $25 for a one year subscription. With that, you can sell stuff on the parts board and put vehicles for sale in the trucks for sale section. You can buy stuff pink, but need to be blue to post stuff for sale. Plus, blue is just cooler than pink

You can click on "subscribe" at the top of the page for more information.

If you want good trim go to Mar-K. They make everything in house and it is top notch stuff. I used it on LowBuck and would do it again any day.

Re: SCORED!!!! Finally after 6 months of looking..

Looks like a good start and a great price. Just the grille and parts off the truck are probably worth the truck. Plus, when you swap in the 496 and tranny and sell what's in there you'll be money ahead.

nice truck, all it needs is the same thing every GMC needs, a grill and tailgate! That should stir up some hate and discontent....
