sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

During my daily CL search ....

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/5377141987.html

If you look at the interior picture, you can see it between the visors. Also comes with power steering and power drum brakes.

Ten-Four. They sure kept the shiny-side up on that Four-Wheeler. I don't see any CB antenna. Wonder how he gets out?

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

I wonder how many of these trucks didn't have a CB in them at one time. I have mine taken out and sitting on a shelf, and I've fixed all the holes in the cab for the mic mount brackets. I think my dad and grandad must have mounted different CB antennas in 4 different places through the 70s. I had to weld up all those holes.

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

Yeah, in 1975 I had a huge Johnson (cb radio) mounted on the roof just like this one. I put it there so I could hear the speaker better. I had dual trucker antennas mounded on the headache rack with little confederate flags attached.

The CB antenna on this truck can be barely seen mounted on the bed on the left side just behind the cab.

As promised . . .

The truck is really nice and I enjoyed looking at it. I think it will make a great DD and wanted to hear your comments before buying it. Seller said it ran about 3000 rpm at 65 mph so probably needs a bigger rear end. I forgot to ask him the size of his tires. The interior is as nice as the pictures in his ad. There is a wire/conduit running from the CB to the dome light.

Fortunately the hole for the CB antenna is behind the drivers seat.

Paint is DD and there is some surface rust on the rocker panels and drip rail.

.
The bed is fair

and I was surprised to see it was wood on a long bed. Maybe more common in 1967?

Engine is clean and I couldn't see any leaks but with 91K miles it is probably due an overhaul soon.

Pipes dump right before the rear wheels but not excessively noisy.

The current seller only had the truck for one year but the previous seller had kept a three ring binder of everything done.

thanks for reading and let me know what you think

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

looks like a very clean truck. just my opinion, but the price seems pretty high. if it was a survivor with nice original paint and all the factory interior, etc i would think the price would still be a bit high. it looks like everything's been repainted except maybe the firewall. did you happen to notice what the black is on the kick panel area? paint? carpet? that's usually the first place to rust in CA trucks, that's why i ask.

Looks like the antenna is a magnet mount so it's been removed from some shots.
Zeldman, I've had 3 Johnson Messengers, a whiteface [#I], a blackface [#II] and a Messenger 23 which was a solid state and a lot smaller than the tube-type I+ II's. In 1995, after buying a '71 Jimmy K/1500, I bought a Radio Shack dual SSB, and intended to fit it out with the "Rabbit Ears" [Twin Truckers] mounted on the side rear-view mirror frames. But I left it in the box and forgot about it. I was told by "experts" that the antennae had to be 9' apart from each other or they would cancel out. I also remember a Black Box with a variable capacitor that split into the coax of one of the sticks and would allow the operator to "sweep'' the beam by changing the signal phase. Unphased Rabbit Ears have a 'peanut-shaped' phase pattern. Not sure if it's Left-Right or Fore and Aft.

To get back to the main topic, it's a beautiful example of the '67 Pickup. Was repaint really necessary? Seems higher priced than the Arizona market would bear, but may be attractive on the East Coast or above the Rust Belt.

73s and 88s, Good Buddies: Orange Sunshine is clear.

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

Assuming the speedo is accurate and my eye is good that those tires aren't less than 28.5" high, to be turning 3 grand at 65 it has 4.10's in it. 3.73's or 3.55's might be in order unless you want to keep the 283 and still pull decent loads. Very nice truck!

I have a box of CBs left over from the 70s and 80s.
The Cobra 149 with the funny switches out the side is the one that slides into the cradle in my Burb.

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

it sure looks like someone spent some time on it at one point for certain

A guy could always stink bug it like my dad does with big tall tires in the back

Price seems a little steep for what it is no doubt someone could easily have that into it but I don't think its close enough to what you want to pay that much

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

Pretty truck, but expensive for a 3/4 ton without air. If the seat is as nice as it looks someone spent close to a grand getting it in that shape.

Thanks for your feedback. Curious that you describe the truck as 3/4 ton. The VIN IS CE147Zxxxxxx which is 1/2 ton, right? Is it because it is a camper special and has beefed up suspension? Not arguing, just trying to learn.

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

Not sure about your 3/4 ton vs 1/2 ton question but that sure is a nice looking truck. 15k nice??? not so sure about that but it really boils down to what its worth to you. Ive been guilty on more than one occasion of buying something for a higher price because "I had to have it right then".
As far as changing gears, Id find an overdrive transmission for it before doing gears. You could still retain the low end power which is needed with the 283 and still run 2200 - 2300 rpm at 70 mph or so.
Good luck on your decision.

Oddly enough, that CB kinda bumped the cool factor up for me a little bit! lol

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

Hi Rob, I was doing too many thing at once. I was researching another 3/4 ton truck and looking at this one at the same time. This one is in fact a half ton based on the VIN and 6 lug axles. It does appear to have a 3/4 ton brake booster unless 67's are different than 71 and 72 boosters. Sorry for the confusion.

That comment is the consensus.

I am a wanna-be but from what I've seen, the fair market price is $12K, if the truck were restored to DD quality. It seems the truck was restored in 2009 but 20K miles and six years haven taken there toll:
  • rust on rocker panels and drip rail
  • wood bed is weathered and cracked
  • small hole in windshield
  • some clean up to interior after CB removal

The problem with these fixes is that there is no "wow" impact. In other words, you buy the truck for $12K and spend $3K to fix it up and you still have a $12K truck. As someone else said, "don't put money into a truck, you can't afford to lose."

So I'll offer less than $12K and try to explain why. With any luck, they will accept my offer and these piddly changes will only be the beginning . . .

Thank you all for taking the time to share your thoughts. Have a great week.

Rob

Well the other deal apparently fell through because the truck is still on CL.

http://monterey.craigslist.org/cto/5466255427.html

A couple of months ago my offer was countered with $11K by the seller. I decided to keep looking but haven't seen much else in that price range. What do you guys think?

Re: sweet ride, includes a CB radio!

As others have said, what is it worth to you? It's been for sale for a couple months at least so it's probably not a screaming good deal. However you seemed disappointed when you thought you missed out on it the last time. If you buy it, you have options later to keep it or resell it. If someone else buys it you have no options. Prices seem to be rising so maybe it's priced a little high today, but the value will come to you eventually. The seller may be wishing he had taken your earlier offer.
