How to transport a C10 Cab?

Hey Guys,

I'm in Georgia and in need to transport a Cab, anyone know who to contact? Or what kind of service I should look for? I've obviously never done this. Thanks!

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

Same way you'd transport a C/30, K/20, etc. Sorry, now for help. Where is the cab coming from? I'd put it on a pallet and have it shipped by a freight company.

Rent a trailer, or flatbed truck. if you do not already have one. Pick it up yourself, and enjoy the road trip.

I rather pay professionals to do this. Going from Athens to Sharpsburg (2hr drive). Thanks for the replies so far.

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

If you cant find a pro a cab will fit in the back of one of our trucks. Lay down a couple of 4x4's so it clears better, a couple of nice straps and you are off.

I google searched the board ... bunch of threads.

Put it out for bid on uship.com. You may find someone close by to help.

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

I assumed it needed a longer haul than that. Why pay someone to take a chance on messing it up when you can do that yourself? Or, don't you feel more confident about your own carefulness than a professional? I've hauled cabs to Maryland from as far away as Alabama. Never came close to doing any damage. They sit flat on a trailer and you just need cross straps across the floor. Here's one on a 5x10 utility trailer

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

Borrow a flat bed pickup, with an 8 foot bed, and you wont even need the trailer. Be sure to strap it down tight though.

U-Haul and an afternoon drive. Trailer if you have a tow rig, truck if you don't.

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

I'd rent a trailer, Uhaul is where I would rent one.

Get a couple of guys together, hire them if you have to, put the cab on the trailer, tie it down WELL (I see stuff blow off trucks all the time, tie it down), and there you go.

I have driven 19 hours at a time, by myself, I have driven alone, 8 hours one way, met strangers, bought what I came for, and then back the same distance alone. Heck, I've driven 3 days just to ski for two! Last time I did that was 1 month ago. 3 days to get there, 2 days there, 3 days to drive back. Alone.

This assumes you have time and the health to do so.

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

The lower the better. That's why a trailer is best. I wouldn't want to have to lift a cab up to the height of a flatbed, unless it was a fork lift doing the lifting. I can't curl nearly as much as I can lift, same as everyone else.

Hey, on second thought, go ahead and hire professionals. Be sure to take pictures. I'd love to see the likes of doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, etc lifting a cab. Hopefully one of them will have a hitch on their Mercedes

Seriously, if you don't have the capability, time, or other reason, post a thread offering to hire a member to do this. I know I would if I was in either location. Lots of members have trucks and trailers and know how to carefully handle this type of thing. Perhaps better than many hauling businesses. The professional that comes to mind would be a rollback. It would be an expensive ride

You make it seem easy. Maybe I'll give it a go, rent a u-haul. Some good tips here, especially the donkey haul. Thanks all!

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

It really is. I picked up a cab from Bills Bowtie in way far SW VA and the two of us got it on the trailer you see the blue cab on. The blue cab I got from JQ2 in N AL with Jeff's Bowties. The three of us slid it up onto his car trailer no problem. Take your time and use common sense and you won't hurt it.

Did I ever tell you all about the one I lost? It wasn't a bozo move like Gas Monkey. I had 'er strapped down proper. I'm WAY too smart for that. Nope, what happened with mine is I forgot to finish up hooking the trailer up and went down the road with no safety chains and the coupler just sitting on the ball. What a site that was seeing that buggy zoom off that bank down into that river. I just kept driving (That's a joke, son. Never, I say, never happened)

More "professionals" have messed up more of my stuff than I ever have. How much do you love your job? That's probably how much they love theirs

Cabs make good tree stands too!

A bare cab really isn't that heavy. A person on each side can usually move it around without breaking a sweat.

Re: How to transport a C10 Cab?

One more thought, if you are not in a hurry to get it and can wait try to make a deal with a local tow co. that works for AAA. They tow a disabled car from their town and come back empty on a regular basis. They will do a return load cheaper if you can wait till they are going that way.
