Muncie 318 help.

Hey guys, I have a 63 C10 and I'm in a predicament. The clutch went out and I decided I would replace the leaky gaskets in the transmission. Well I ended up replacing the needle bearings in the input shaft and I got it put back together and it locks up unless it's in neutral or the synchro clutch is all the way back and the selector gear is in neutral. I want to get the darn thing fixed so I can drive it since it's been down since fall time. Thanks in advanced guys!

Re: Muncie 318 help.

when you put the side cover back on the trans has to be in neutral and the shift forks on the side cover have to be in neutral also. Not saying you already didn't know this.

and welcome to the site and let us know what you find.

Well it does it with the side cover off also. I'm gonna pull it back apart this afternoon and see what I can't make of it.

Re: Muncie 318 help.

If it is in two gears at once it will lock up.

Well I don't think it is. Also, when it's in neutral the tailshaft spins too.

Re: Muncie 318 help.

Well I got thing fixed and working right. What it was is the second gear synchronizer was pushed back in the synchronizer clutch and it was bound up. After looking it over and a few unpleasant words I looked in the slot where the snap ring holds the snchro in and used a screwdriver to pop it back forward. After that everything worked like it should. Finally, I can get back on the road!!!

Re: Muncie 318 help.

I HATE IT when that little guy comes out while we go get a drink of water or answer the phone & he mixes our parts up like that...
