Nephew joined the Air Force

I think hes close to the end of week two. Here is an excerpt from a letter to his mom ...

... please write frequently. This place is terrible. Please tell everyone back home my story in case I don't survive. D

PS: Its so hot down here, but nothing is worse than the constant yelling.

Too funny, hes such a wise guy haha. He also said when someone was yelling at him some of their spit went in his mouth haha!!!

Re: Nephew joined the Air Force

I remember looking through the chain link fence when I was in basic training and seeing the Air Force guys at McGuire. I kept thinking how nice it would be to be on the other side of the fence.

Was he that hungry? LOL Old adage; The Marines get the glory, the navy gets the pay the Army does the work and the Air Force gets fed best.

Dang! Why didn't anyone tell me that before I spent 25 years in the Army?

Re: Nephew joined the Air Force

Does the Coast Guard still have a height requirement? You know, in case their boat sinks and they have to walk back to shore?

I heard that one in high school right about the time we all took the ASVAB.

Tell your nephew to "shut up, listen, and do whatever he's told." He does that and he'll be fine.

If Forest Gump can do it, anyone can.

**The kid that played young Forest Gump joined the military and is still in last I heard.

It is funny and interesting that the Armed Forces can quickly drum out 20 years of over protective and often unproductive parenting in about 3 months to get young men back on track to manhood.

....it must be hard to not text Mom or Dad every 47 minutes...lol.

On the upside, when he gets back home they will probably find that he is room is clean, his bed made every morning and probably addressing his parents and neighbors as sir and mam.

Yep, it worked for me, except I already had a work ethic, but that's about it.

Re: Nephew joined the Air Force

Went thru AF basic back in '84. Was easy, and we didn't have cell phones to text family back then. I tried to stay in until retirement, however the first BRAC back in the early
'90's crushed that career plan. Was forced out at 7 years and 7 months.

Re: Nephew joined the Air Force

They cant have their cell phones in basic. I think they are allowed a certain amount of telephone calls via land line. But most communication has to be done USPS.

He won't be able to use that cell phone much either at his tech school, least not during the school days.
