No progress

Anyone else just sit with a beer after work and wish the funds where there to get their truck going?

Re: No progress

Have you been watching me from a distance? There is not a day goes by that I don't just look at the truck and dream. Of course you know the difference between a dream and a fantasy. fantasies will never happen. Sit down, plan out what you need first, to enjoy your truck, then get into the "wants" list. Do what you can for yourself, and anything you think you can't do, ask the board members, odds are someone has done it.
From your picture you have a great start, I've been meaning to replace my rockers and put in a blazer tank since 2000. (Still not done)

Re: No progress

This is why I drive mine as is while doing stuff slow and in stages. I will never have a perfect truck with every detail perfect. Mainly because I use it as truck and don't wanna worry about it and I don't want it sitting in peices for years either. Life is too short

Re: No progress

You know the old saying " If you have time to lean ,You have time to clean " Lots of small projects only require sandpaper ,elbow grease and spray paint .I'm a big fan of my Heineken but beer costs money and once it's gone you have nothing to show for it , sandpaper and spray paint are cheap and last a long time ......

Re: No progress

Work on what you can, prep your parts and get them clean, then sit down and drink a beer and enjoy what you just accomplished

I have had my 68 project apart since 09, but when I drive it I will be saying I built this truck

Re: No progress

Its summertime, which means sitting around drinking beer. Living in the snowbelt, its what we do. Spend the time to get it on the road in the winter and enjoy it all summer long. Work on the stuff that only takes a few hours of tinkering at night, while enjoying that cold beer, and the sun is out past 8 p.m.

I have the opposite problem... a garage full of parts waiting on me to have free time to install them.

Till my cigarette is done, when I used to smoke, then I'd get back to work on those hood hinges! They could be like-new in about 15 minutes in a blast cabinet or slightly longer with a wire brush bench grinder or drill. Then I'd paint them, and move on to the next thing.

It'll be a loooong time before you have more money than time, so as long as you have more time than money, spend it on the little things that will add up to make the truck that much nicer!

(I'm not actually picking on your hood hinges, they were just visible in the photo. Whatever comes next comes next!)

Re: No progress

My problem of late is motivation over $$$. I'm very close to having it ready for paint. But between the chores that have to get done around the house -- mow the lawn, etc., and some lake time I just don't seem to get it done. I walk by it in the garage every day coming and going and think to myself, this weekend I'm going to.....but I just don't seem to get it done.

All the time. I've got a wife, for starters, a 3yr old, and a little one on the way. Life keeps getting in the way of getting mine started to see if she'll run good. I've got a few things to toss back on the motor before I turn it over. Keep plugging away at it and it'll all be worth it.

Same here 0 time. If I had a shop like OP I would be able to work on it more. Hard to work in the driveway at night

Walked in the garage. Sweating hard, sat in it for a minute. Got out, stared at everything I had laying around for a while. Whent and got some crown on ice.

Re: No progress

I put mine back together and started driving it, if only on the weekend doing chores. Since I started driving it, I have done more to fix it up in the last year than the previous 7-8 years combined. Also changed my goal. At one time I wanted to make it almost show quality and have everything perfect. Now I am a lot less demanding. My new goal is just a good working truck that looks nice to 90% of people that see it. A much more obtainable goal.

Good luck and don't get discouraged.

Re: No progress

Mine is on hold again, it is time to build our barn / garage, tired of rolling around in the dirt and working in tight buildings
