Re: Need utility body help 1967-72. Truck I just picked up

don't know about 69 but these days, utility body companies put data plates on them somewhere..

and if the truck was sold cab n chassis, the body upfitter replace the fmvss decal with new gvwr ratings, usually in driver's door jamb..

figured you looked already but any paperwork in glovebox or anywhere behind seat or in one of the bins?

otherwise, someone may be able to id the body type from pictures.. good full body long shots may make it easier for them to id..

as for the multi point latches, several places sell them, buyers is a good one to start with to match the ones on your truck..

google buyers products company 2017 catalog on carid.. pages 230/231..

you can find their products on amazon, grainger, etc.

good luck!

Cool Re: Need utility body help 1967-72. Truck I just picked up

Start looking at the door handles is there a name on the handles? how about a tailgate? nearly every service body I've seen for any truck of any year I've seen always has the manufacturers name on the door handles or the tailgate. Like Reading, Omaha, Koenig, Knapheide, ect. if you can find the name then you can find the local distributer of that bed they may be able to get you replacement parts that way.

Am I seeing California plates on it? The body looks like one of our local body company's products:

^^^ possible if the utility body was built two years after the truck? vin breakdown may lead to that if it was sold with a bed?

that list above of common older companies like Reading 1955, Omaha Standard 1926, Knapheide 1848 [wow, 6th generation family owned!] is probably more likely for 60's era..

might be able to send some high quality pictures and dimensions to some of those older companies to see if they might be able to identify their own manufacturing.. or at least give you some clues regarding their construction and materials..

the latches may be house brand or others but components used like latches, strikers, hinges, door stops, props, etc. may lead to the utility body manufacturer..

I'm no help, we have everything from Pacific, Scelzi, Utilimaster, Altec, etc. and they all look the same and break the same to me, lol.. we just work out of them and fix them..

and with my experience ordering replacement doors even from modern production bodies hasn't been anything to brag about.. might be less painful just to have a local shop fab them for you..

the history would still be interesting to know but don't get your hopes up for ready spares or even for them to make replacements for a 50 year old body..

good luck!

got it, worth a shot, never know, older companies might be interested in helping you restore and sport their logo on a 50 year survivor..

btw, great place for pinch moldings, bulb seal, edge guard, etc. is McMaster-Carr catalog is enormous and full of dimensions and specs..

good luck!

A great source for latches and handles is Moore Industrial Hardware. www.mooreindhardware.com Very large selection of hinges, latches and handles.

Making head way. Does anyone know where or have doors before I end up making them? Would save me a lot of time... I took door off of passengers side just to test for. Getting there. Would even take ones that were a little rusty for the hinge and latch assembly. Any help would be great! Tailgate also. Some pictures

I have this one. It had a locked up 327 when I bought it. I installed a 350 and put a small base Rochester 2 bbl carb on it. licensed and insured it. turned out to have 456 rear gears and guzzled gas. So I parked it.

I didn't read the whole thread, but you don't know what brand the body is? These companies keep replacement parts. The bodies aren't year specific, or even brand. If you can't identify the maker or if they no longer supply the exact door and other parts, you can buy any other brand door as close if not the same size. If different you can alter that.

There are no markings on the body anywhere. If I could figure that out I would have one hell of a jump start on my quest. Going to make some calls tomorrow to random body companies and get a feel for what they can get \ make. I found the truck smashed and there were no doors... So kinda starting with nothing.

Thank you all for the replies

Its the same height, comes up to the back of the cab in the same spot as yours. It’s on a lifted K truck so it appears taller.
