Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

we don't have that much snow here, possibly the altitude where our community is. 4040 ft. what we lack in snow we gain in wind though. thus the wind chill.

Yes I’ll work on the pics -!dont want anyone’s neck to get out of sorts!

Same temps here - had some -50 and -60 in the region. Nasty to say the least. Lately it’s par for the course. -20 and -30 etc.

Pics of the project coming.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah...... winter coat time for sure ....and another log in the fire.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

Here's where I'm at.

Missing the little brackets that attach hood latch panel to the fenders. Will have to source them or make something.

Question I have is - What is the panel in the first pic for and where does it go?

Body work that is on these parts was that way when I got the truck. Needs work for sure! Front fender on the truck has a wonky area to the right of the headlight bucket if you look there.

Think I'm going to need a new hood latch assembly. Mines worn out!

Hope all is well with your builds, stay warm, thanks for the info and please comment or ask questions!

P.S. I hope pics align properly. I double checked and they came our oriented the right way. If not - I'll get it right eventually.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

panel in first pic is the part that attaches to the front bumper and heads off towards the grille. it hides the filler panel at the lower edge of the front fenders, the part that spaces the fenders apart. it should bolt onto the front bumper along with the big hooters, I mean, bumperettes......

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

the little brackets on each front fender are simply an angle iron style with rounded corners, like a bed frame angle iron that has a smooth outside edge on the angle. I can get a dimension for you later if you want and you could make a set pretty easily. probably can't buy them anyway.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

maybe throw a piece of cardboard in front of your nice new rad so the fins don't get bent over. it works for me.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

Protection from getting bent over is a good thing.

Dsraven- send the dimensions of those brackets if you can. I’d sincerely appreciate it.

Anyone have a pic of the filler panel attaching to bumper?

I’ll good with it and see what I can figure.

Much appreciated as always.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

The 57 GMC grill is unique - sort of seems like a quick after thought on the part of GM. The 55-56 grills look the part - different - but they look like they belong and the 58-59 grills fit super nicely. The 57 is growing on me but it's not the nicest one out there - and the 55-59 Chevy versions are very good looking in my opinion.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

the top has nuts welded on the back side, the side just has holes drilled and the nuts are in the fender extension parts. 5/16 bolts are what is used on mine.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

the steel used looks like the rounded edge angle iron from a bed frame. probably about as thick too. probably pick a used bed frame up off kijiji pretty cheap or free. would look like stock then.

Re: 57 GMC 100 vs 57 Chevy Question?

I'm planning on using a hood latch from a newer truck, grabbing some parts and welding up what it takes for some brackets. that way it will have an "inside the cab" release. no engine parts missing when I come out from the movies, lol.

Thanks for these detailed pics. Beers on me.

I should be able to make what I need. I sincerely appreciate it.

Love the idea of the modern hood latch and release. My 67 C10 needs one too!

Will keep you posted on progress. Can't say it enough - but thanks!
