Seat belts not locking up

The seat belts in my 86 shorty will not lock up. I was reading that the inertia lock isn't working and probably needs rebuilt. BUT...

But, i also have young boys and would prefer the ability to manually lock the belt after pulling it to full extension. Was that not a built in function of these in 86?

If i can't fix these to lock or they are not capable of manually locking. Does anyone have any suggestions on a set to purchase? I'd like to retain the blue and stock style buckles if possible.

TIA

Re: Seat belts not locking up

It's a common issue with these belts o not lock or not unlock. I do not know of anyone who makes belts that will fit into the factory buckles. When I redid my 82 (stock seat) and 83 (92 C1500 seat) C10, I used belts from a 92-98 Chevy/GMC extended cab truck. The bolt right in place of the old belts and are way better mechanism/re-tractors than the 80's style.

Whenever I get unlazy, I will probably do the same thing for my 81.

Did you just grab junkyard truck belts, or get new ones? If new, do you happen to have part #s for what you had to get? I also would like to have better operating belts as the original poster.

Re: Seat belts not locking up

I will probably replace my stock bench seat with a pair of Chrysler Sebring convertible seats with integral seat belts (and power driver's seat.) That will be the last thing on my list because the stock bench seat is in good shape and getting new seat belts will be a lot easier than rigging up custom seat brackets.
