It's getting close to being able to build a whole cab!

Re: New Release! Upper Windshield frame & Gutter

I was hearing rumors that complete cabs would be available eventually. Kind of funny cabs are available for '47-'53 and '55 to '59, but not '67-'72. Are some of the old dies missing?

Re: New Release! Upper Windshield frame & Gutter

I'm sure all the dies are missing. Dies have a limited number of stampings they can do depending on how much they stretch the metal. The more they have to stretch the metal the more force has to be applied to the dies. Where the metal slides on the die it slowly wears the die away. Thus creases become softer and radii become larger. Once GM (or its supplier) was done with a die they were usually sent outside of the states for use. One of the reasons that the foreign models have different panels as the panel die for that area may have been bad or the piece next to it was no longer coming out of the die correctly. Dies are made of large heavy steel pieces and have a good scrap value so often they were scrapped as they had no immediate value to the company.

Re: New Release! Upper Windshield frame & Gutter

I'm glad to see we have yet another way to save a cab in another common rust area so you don't need a whole new cab. Look at what those cost that are mentioned as available. The only cab that I'd replace with new would be one requiring a minimum of all the repair panels offered. I don't think I've ever seen a cab that with upper, lower, and cowl panels replaced
