Small journal 327 main bearing question

Building a small journal 327 and cam across some bearings I’ve never seen...I ordered from summit and they are the sealed power tri-metal main bearings..the oil hole in the bearings do not line up with my block oil passages..but these bearings also have a groove cut all the way through them that does line up with the passage..I called tech support and they assure me these are the correct bearings...anyone ever seen this before? Am I ok to use these?

Okay. It just seems odd to me that the oil holes don't line up and they use the slot over the oil hole instead. I wonder if these bearings are made for multiple different blocks..

It seems weird to me. I thought I was going to learn something new on this one. I don't understand why you wouldn't want the holes to line up; or why a slot is better.

Re: Small journal 327 main bearing question

I would send them back. They look like sb ford bearings. I googled pictures of chevy sb main bearings and none looked like yours. Get the right ones that the holes line up. Built a bunch of sbc in my time and the holes always lined up. just my op.

Re: Small journal 327 main bearing question

Did you have the chance to see the bearings that came out of the engine originally ?

As far as the Summit tech support, the number on the box most likely is correct but could there be a chance the wrong set of bearings got put into the box you received.

I never seen a set that did not line up on the oil port. But again, I am not old enough to say I've seen it all.. With the oil groove the way it is in the bearing it may work fine but double checking the situation would be well worth it.

Re: Small journal 327 main bearing question

I called Federal Mogul/Sealed power technical support 2 different times in 2 days to be sure...lol...I sent pics to both techs and both did their research and said that the bearings are the correct ones for my application. They both said those bearings are listed for the small journal 265,283 and 327 and the slot lining up with the my oil hole is correct...

Can anyone tell me where the oil hole is on the mains for the 265 or the 283? curious if it is offset from center on one of them and would line up with these bearings..

Re: Small journal 327 main bearing question

I wonder why they even put an oil hole in it if it doesn't line up. I guess nobody here has seen anything like them. I wouldn't use them until I had a better understanding of why they are made like they are. I'll bet if I asked my local machinist about them he would tell me to just use regular normal bearings and not get fancy.

Re: Small journal 327 main bearing question

looked around some more and it looks like they are made both ways even sb ford's. If it has a slot over the oil passage i guess it's all good.
