Homemade lift kit

I feel you on many points Mick, and I'm honestly not here just to get into arguments. I avoid Pirate just because of a lot of the garbage that goes on over there. I find it primitive and totally useless.

I'm not asking you to give up all hope in society, but I am asking you to keep up with the good tech while giving up the English lessons. I try my best to type in a clear manner using good English to the best of my ability. It annoys me when I try and read a sentence that runs a full page just as much as anyone, but its not my place to try and fix it. I'll stick to posting what I feel is a good example with what I hope is good information.

It was never my intent to chase anyone off, but it was my intent to make it clear what is considered acceptable on this particular forum (and most of the others that I frequent). Its good to have folks with the been-there-done-that type of experience around to help answer not only the out there and cutting edge questions, but also the redundant day to day questions that are bound to crop up like always.

And, on that note, I'm going to back out of this, and I'll never bring the subject back up. I'd love to see some pictures of your 80, might provide some motivation to get off the web and get my truck back on the road sometime.

So, Johnnyreb, what size of tractor tires were you planning on running anyways?

Sorry no pictures of the 80. The Boggers are in the living room, the interior is almost finished (Spray insulation and Danamat and alot of Autometer gauges and a tilt four speed colunm and MB Quarts in the doors and I added factory door locks) I have most of the parts to change the front clip to a later style. The stock front rad support and the fenders are all cracked and welded and cracked from to many offroad miles and a lift kit from day one. I did run into a Gear vendors overdrive I have to decide what to do with too.
To many projects, to few dollars, and AHDDD that won't quit.

well I dont know how cheap it would be but i would look for some Rockwell's with tires. that in it self would lift the truck and have big tires for the swamp or what ever . oh and i like pirate 4X4 you just have to be a rock humper to fit in. but camo an lance have started a mud forum.lol

If you bought a K-10 and want 12 inches of lift for 56" tires then its only a matter of time before axles, driveshafts, TC's and tranny's need replaced too.

If I were you I would find a set of used 4" springs (i see them on craigslist all the time) and run a decent set of 33" or 35" tires to have fun with.

Going that big means more stress on everything, if you want to stay with a budget (or no budget) then keep it simple. Get rid of the front blocks as well..

I too have a 80 truck LWB...60's 4:46's Lockers F&R, F&R Ramsey's (industrials) injected BBC, 39 boggers on Welds, from days of old.

How much lift and what method did you use?Was any of it homemade?What width wheels?That way your post can have something to do with this thread.4.56s,right?

I have to agree with MSGROSS, all of these parts can be cheap and offer a ton of offroading possibilities. My Jeep with 30's is a ton of fun offroad and it's not what I would consider a beater. If I had a beater with 33's or 35's, I could go just about anywhere and have a blast doing it. This is my vote.

reb these trucks are fun. but they do cost alot no matter what you do with them. the way the economy is i wish i had the money i spent on my truck in food. you dont have to play in the mud, you do have to eat. and when the goverment is broke who do you turn to?

Any awesome way for making a 12 inch homemade lift? I have the 6 inch lift already. add a 6 inch shackle to the rear? what to do with the front? have one fabbed out? dont mean to hijack the thread but im interested big time!

Look back on this thread.About all you can do is drop the mounts.i`ve never seen a 6" shackle flip,I don`t think.

www.offroaddesign.com makes a 4 inch shackle flip kit, it is $189.99. you can buy a 2 inch longer shackle for a two wheel drive (lowering kit) when used with the flip kit it raises it two extra inches. Thus having six inches. But that is hardly home made. On top of that a shackle flip kit only lowers one end of the spring. That changes the wheel base length. Example: rear of spring is pushed down six inches axle moves forward. tire is no longer in the center of wheel well. something to think about$189.99 flip kit, $60.00 two inch longer shackles = $249.99 or two superlift 8 inch rear springs $125.00 each x2 = $250.00 = axle in center of wheel well and two more inches.

but you can lower all of your spring hangers as low as you want in your yard with a grinder, welder, torch and about $100.00 worth of steel.

Can you put longer springs in the stock locations to lift it? I have a coupple springs 2 in longer than stock and wondering if it would work. Thanks

put the longer springs in a press and add more arch to them. Till the eye 2 eye measurement becomes the same as the original.

you can bend the leafs aropund a 55 gallon drum,which is kinda bleh but hey,it works aye?

or,
another option is just go to the junkyard,and start stacking leafs,

we had a toyota on 44's by doing this,its not hard at all.

besides,like you said,its a fun truck right?

In my experience many younger guys think they know everything and therefore cant learn anything because ofcourse they know it all already, and now that I think about it maby age doesnt even apply but when a guy asks for help and regardless of the wording is trying to learn something by first admitting he is "young" and doesnt "know-how" to do something and is smart enough to find this board and all of its members and combined years of everything gm then I think he like many of us will learn over the years and eventually help other people with what his projects and the old timers have taught him..I am pretty sure that the guys we all know that know everything are the same guys that we sometimes avoid ...Now on the other hand there are a couple of guys on this board that do know just about everything but I assure you none of them are in there twenties...LOL We cant learn anything if we already know everything...Patience with the youngsters please...Now before you start banging away on your key-board . This is my two cents worth and I like every member can voice my opinion "within reason" I am 48 years old and have "SEVEN" kids ....
