When we are in public, especially at restaurants, my daughter will see kid start acting up and say "If they only knew" because she is so familiar with the symptoms. But most parents would rather give the kid a pill.

One discovery we made was Andy's Frozen Custard. It apparently doesn't have Annatto. He can consume that at lightening speed. he can eat the crispy chicken strips at Chick-Fill-A and DQ, but not the grilled strips or the fries. Dimetapp sends him up the wall.

Like I said, my point in this rhetoric is some of the crap we feed our kids causes the behavioral problems.

Point not missed, you really have to look at what the kids are eating and test it. I worked with a guy who's kid could not eat carrots. Their child was having extreme physical and mental health issues for years. They finally took him to a place that figured it out. That was over thirty years ago, and that example really stuck with me. Those two went through hell with that kid till the carrot diagnosis. Lucky for them it was before the days of, drug them first, and ask questions later! Once you dope them, it really muddies the water.

Re: and yet again

When my eldest son was small, we searched for awhile about behavior problems. The doctor took him off grains and after a couple weeks, had us introduce them back in his diet, one at a time. The effect was immediate, with corn. You know how much food has corn byproducts in it!? Man, that was a pain to deal with. I'm allergic to citrus, so have to be careful with just about anything that I think may have citrus in it. Crazy. He (nor I) didn't get violent, just in a sad, easily made to cry mode over nothing. No corn, he was just fine.

Re: and yet again

Larry I am simply amazed at your daughters findings. All our lives we've been taught "real food was healthier for us" with all natural ingredients. I have never heard of annatto. It's used to color some foods. Hmmf.
My wife removed red dye from my daughter's diet when she was about 13 and was having major migraine headaches. It helped.
Doctors are too eager to prescribe meds these days to treat your ails. I'm not sure but I believe they get a percentage of all the rx's they write don't they?
And don't even get me started on the pharmaceutical companies. They don't want to cure anyone. They want you to take their meds from now on. It's a billion $ industry and they plan to keep it that way.

Re: and yet again

that's some interesting finds Larry.....it seems like kids nowadays are allergic to everything...I don't remember it being that way when I was a kid...I was raised on a family farm and we grew what we ate...very rarely did we ever eat out.....

Re: and yet again

The youngest daughter's first job was a pill pusher (legal drugs).

She did that for about a year and quit because she wasn't curing anybody, just drugging them. She made a hell of a lot of money, but she hated the concept.

Re: and yet again

Now this morning the father of the shooter is claiming all this happened over the son being bullied ? there's always some excuse for these killers.

As far as all these medications Drs are handing out ,Well... Ms Grumpy is still going thru cancer treatment after 7 surgery's in the last 2 years she also has severe arthritis and takes multiple medications and injections weekly yet Dr's refuse to give her any type of pain medication for fear she will become addicted to pain relief (Really?) After reading some of these posted causes for hyper activity I've ordered a gallon of red/yellow dye , cases of carrots and a few other anxiety causing ingredients in hope it will increase my activity levels back to where they used to be ! Why can't they invent a magic drug geared towards baby boomers to make us more atheletic ,increase energy and feel good all the time ? Seems it would sell better than pills that knock you out ?

I'd rather burn out than rust out !

Re: and yet again

They do but it all goes to one place!

Remember when farms were dying in the '80s? Well, they pretty much did and now we have corporate food. It's industrialized. Many of the things they do to maximize or assure yield are creating all sorts of health problems across the board. It's nice to see more small local operations popping up, though. Towns with farmers markets once a week. The problem is, that's what we need every day all year long!

People have varying food allergies, even things that are healthy for others, that need to be narrowed down by a nutritionist. But when I went to one years ago it seemed she was grabbing at straws, making recommendations based on what was believed the generally healthiest diet, not on what was either good or bad for me. Hopefully they've come a long way. The problem I see is we have the FDA and AMA protecting industry, not the people.

Re: and yet again

One of the products that is supposedly showing some adverse affects is soy, which, increasingly...is in just about everything that is processed.
It has also spawned the term 'Soy Boy' which is a situation that supposedly ties in with the dropping testosterone and rising estrogen in younger males.
(noting that the term 'soy boy' has some pretty interesting and often funny memes attached to it)

That said, I was surprised at just how many products have soy in them these
days....worth taking a look at the ingredients from time to time.

Re: and yet again

When I was a Kid being bullied was a fact of life and a bit of a right of passage. The more you whined... the more you got it! Basically, you learned to shut your whining face and man up!

Grumpy I got you covered with a good concoction! A large coffee black, drop in two lumps of Viagra in lieu of sugar! You'll be repopulating the neighborhood, while all the young men are watching Dr. Phil and blubbering in their safe space!

For the life of me I don't know why food is colored. It's not good for you, and I wish they wouldn't. If the government had a clue they'd disallow it, but they're too busy entertaining their wallets and BS ideologies.

They're screwing up dogs as well, rumor is it's the food coloring in their food. Like a dog gives a rat's &(^ what color their food is. Skin allergies in dogs are on a dramatic increase. It's probably the food.

I hate excuses.

If you do the crime, do the time (or whatever you deserve).

No publicity for the perp.,serve the justice quickly, don't cost the taxpayers a fortune dragging it out. No need for a mental evaluation, even I can answer that one.

I eat lots of carrots.

I consider walking into a building and killing several people to be a valid mental evaluation. And now it's too late to help that person.

Re: and yet again

Over prescribed antidepressants, ADD medications, and undiagnosed mental health issues. Every kid that has energy is pumped full of meds instead of taken outside and allowed to be a kid. Add that to a society that lives for recognition and "fame" due to social media driving an insane desire for validation in the form "likes" and "follows." Then mix in parents that let TV raise their kids because they are too busy and self absorbed with their social media to actually raise and discipline their kids, and you have a very small jump from normal teen angst to murdering classmates.

Also the biggest driving factor imo is the fact that the media treats every mass murderer like a freaking Rockstar. Posting their names and reasons on every channel and website. For God sakes, they put the Boston bomber on the cover of the freaking Rolling Stone, all air brushed up and dressed up like a male model. From Invisible to everyone knows your name. Then we get talking heads from media, Hollywood, and govt wondering why it keeps happening, and blaming the NRA.

Re: and yet again

And if you think it's bad now just wait until all the 6 and 7 year old kids being pumped full of hormones and puberty blockers to change their genders hit High-school age. Puberty is rough on kids, I can't imagine the emotional turmoil a 14-16 year old will go through after having parents shoving estrogen pills down his throat and forcing him to wear a dress and make up for years because he looked at a barbie once when he was 5.
