Exhaust manifold questions.

On this 72 jimmy 4x4. A previous owner installed a set of headers. They are rusted thru, as well the front axle hits one of the pipes and has heavily crushed it. I have also had nothing but problems with headers over the years and am not a fan of them.

I'm wondering what is the best flowing stock exhaust manifolds I can get and put on this? I see the 73-87 is more of a tube style. Do they flow better then the m style of the 67-72's? What about even newer, like mid 90's?

As far as manifolds go... the stock ramhors are pretty good flowing.

A lot of cats think headers are a pain in the rear... If they are installed to the correct application, the correct style gaskets are used, and the fasteners are not over tightened, they will seal up and last for a long time.

But that's just me... I wikes headers.

that should be for a pair, Speedway, for instance, has them for $114/pair:

right now they even have a "garage sale" (previously installed) passenger side one for $40.

the difference in the Jegs and the Speedway versions is the brackets, the jegs don't have them. you would need to determine if you need them, or if they would be in the way.

you also need to look and see if you can run a straight down exit like that.

I have these 2 1/2" "corvette" style on my '66 2WD pickup but your later model 4WD might not allow them

Ive had proper to the ride headers, and had problems, on several different rides.

I did some searching and found the dormans being posted in same thread as the wyscos. So I went out and looked. The tab would be find on pass side, but not drivers.

Strait down will work easily on drivers. Pass side, I would have to 90deg bend it soon as it comes out, but do have space do do that.

A lot of cats think headers are a pain in the rear... If they are installed to the correct application, the correct style gaskets are used

For a daily driver I find them a pain, takes too long to change spark plugs with headers. =-)

Strait down on both sides are what 4x4s run, you can easily cut off the cast iron tabs to clear the firewall with a cutoff wheel on a angle grinder

Youre welcome, bought my 2 1/2" from dorman....

Use the OEM locking tabs for the mounting bolts, retorque after a couple heat cycles, should be good for years of no leak miles

Gasket? Or not, that is another debate.....

Use extra large brass nuts on the three studs with hi temp anti seize, i think its the one with nickle

What size/length bolts will I need with these dorman vette manifolds? About to place an order for other things and am going to include these.

Manifold to head bolts ,should be 2 1/4 " on that sb Chev.....try to find that one in the hardware store! Chase /trim the 2 1/2, or try the dealer (your butt might hurt )! crazyL

Thanks on the length.

Ive learned to get the special exhaust bolts. Normal bolts seem to stretch with the heat cycles, so no hardware stores will work on this part.
