How to check A arm bushings - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Have my front end apart to change the springs, shocks, & ball joints. Was wondering if there is a way to check the A arm bushings to c if they need replacing. I know everyone will say just replace them while its apart, but time & $ are keeping me on a tight schedule & budget.

Any info is really appreciated.

I always check them so I don't replace stuff not needed...
Without spring pressure, hold a arm in location that it would normally sit and then rock it around to find play, place your finger at the screw cap rubber seal so you can feel for movement.

If it were still together with the weight on the front end, you would have seen that the neoprene bushings were crushed, if they were bad. How old are the parts? I've had control arm bushings go bad in just a couple of years. Upper control arm bushings really are pretty cheap, and easy to replace, to boot.
