1972 Super, lower side molding options

Was woodgrain exterior moulding standard on 72 Supers, or could they be black as well?

Woodgrain was standard equipment for Supers unless it was a stepside, but could be ordered however you filled out the RPO sheet.

So a Super with black lower molding would have been a special order/option or non-existent? I assume that wouldn’t be on the glove box door, right?

I think the woodgrain and the black lower mouldings had different RPO codes. Someone who is more knowledgeable than I will chime in with all the specifics.

Re: 1972 Super, lower side molding options

Woodgrain lower molding was standard on both Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers, so you will not normally see an RPO for lower belt molding on either. Black was not an optional lower molding on these trim levels.

Custom and Custom Deluxe could be ordered with lower black molding (RPO BX2) and it would appear on the SPID if an original option.

RPO B85 was the upper bright molding - and it could be added to Custom through Cheyenne trim levels and the RPO would appear on the SPID. The upper bright molding was standard on Cheyenne Supers so you won't see B85 (or BX2) on their SPIDs.
