Need tire advice

I have been doing research in this site for tires for my 1970 C20. The tires that came with the truck when I bought it in May are from 2001 and cracking so it's time. I was looking at the Hankook 245/75-16 tires because I like the price from Walmart and I like the way they look. The truck is for Home Depot runs and other errands but will not be used as a daily driver. Thoughts? Other recommendations?

Re: Need tire advice

I like the Hankooks I have purchased so far. I have a set of MT's on my WWII jeep and a set of street tires on my '69 short step.

The 245 75 16 is about the same size as the stock tires. On my 70 GMC C2500 I ran the 265 75 16 size on 16x7 rims and that was a great choice. My big block truck had 3.54 gears, so if you have a 4.10/4.57 small block truck you might prefer the taller gear killing tires over the 245's.

Re: Need tire advice

I had a '70 c20 and the stock rims were 16.5 not 16. If your wheels are stock with dog dishes you may want to double check the size. 16" tires will not fit 16.5 rims

Re: Need tire advice

Thanks for the replies. The wheels are 16" and currently have 245-75-16 tires on them so I am ok there.

Re: Need tire advice

My current budget tire is Sumitomo. If they have your size, go on tirerack.com , read the reviews then check prices. You will like what you see. Add shipping +100 bucks mount/balance, then call your local tire shop that has the same tire and ask them to match the price if you like. Often they will give a big discount! If not, have them quote you their price "out the door" and it will be, in my experience, about 100 bucks more expensive than your shipping-plus-100 and physically taking the tires to a shop for installation.
