Question on 4x4 lockouts

Since I'm seeing lots of 4x4 trucks on this forum and mine is a 2wd I have a question about the lockouts? Why are some of the knobs yellow and others are blue? Is this a 1/2 vs 3/4 ton variant? Thanks

The 67-68 were a cast aluminum. 69-72 chevy were blue in 1/2 or 3/4 ton. GMC used red in the 3/4 tons. I think the early 69 chevy 1/2 tons were red also. Anything in yellow is 73 and newer. Not sure if this is exactly correct, but should be close.

I always thought the cast aluminum hubs went thru 69 then 70 had the red dials 71-72 were blue and yellow were 73+.

71-72 GMC were blue as well, at least K2500's were. From what I recall red was 69/70 GM and Ford.

Re: Question on 4x4 lockouts

Red plastic dials were used on OEM hubs in the 1970 model year for 3/4t trucks (69 also?). Red 1/2t in 69. Blue for 71-72 for Chevy - not sure on GMC.

Here's a red 70 3/4t dial: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...7&postcount=10 and http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...58&postcount=2
