Blazer won't start

This might not be the right place for this, but here goes.

I've got a 75 blazer that is in need of a little TLC. I've got the interior gutted with plans of bedliner. A few days ago I had to jump it off, Sunday it started on its own and while working on it I think I left the key turned to on. Now it won't start. To maybe make matters worse, it rained last night, while the blazer had no top on. When I put the charger on and try to start it, I can hear the charger "ground out", like a loud humming noise. After I started hearing that, I took the radio out. Could I have unplugged something getting the radio out? Any ideas on what the problem is? I don't think any water got to anything important, because there was still dust on the dash pad and gauge cluster. For a while the lights would work and the horn would honk, but now nothing happens, not even a click. A test light will light up on the battery and on a hot wire that was on the radio.
Thanks for the help,
Carson

Make sure you do not have a hot wire under the dash on something.

Re: Blazer won't start

Well, after being on the charger all last night and today, the horn will try to honk and I can hear the starter click. The lights still won't turn on and the outer ring (with the ears) on the ignition switch cylinder came off when I pulled the key out. It's been raining here all day, so I'm limited on what I can troubleshoot tonight.
Thanks for the help

How do you jump the starter? I've seen it done, but it's been a while.

Re: Blazer won't start

You can test for a short by taking the positive battery cable off and putting a test light in series with it to the battery. With the key off you should not have any power draws. You could have a hot wire for the radio grounding on the dash.
To jump the starter, I generally use an old screwdriver to go from the battery terminal on the starter to the small terminal on the engine side of the starter. There should be at least one wire on the small terminal.

Re: Blazer won't start

I put a "hot" battery in it and it cranked. I still think that I'm gonna go with a ezwiring kit pretty soon.
Thanks for all the help and input
