Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

Well many of you might remember my last build, it was the Army theme 66 stepside that I built and ended up selling about two weeks after I got it done. I was sad to see it go for sure. Since that time I bought a new house and decided its time to pick up another truck and get to work.

I found this one on Craigslist and decided it would be a good little project.

Re: Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

After I started striping it down I realized that this was going to be a big project! This thing had so much bondo in it. Some areas were so thick it looked like drywall! I guess for the price I bought it its not bad but way more work then I expected. Under some of the bondo were nice dents as well...

Re: Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

Someone even put a sunroof in this truck. That had about three tubes of silicone on it to keep it from leaking so I decided to take it out and weld it in. My first ever attempt at that...

And a little bead roll on the inside.

Re: Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

I have a ton of pictures from all the body work but they are kinda boring. Now off to suspension. It was a leaf spring truck so I made some mounts and picked up a pair of trailing arms from a scrap truck.

Cupped the front control arms..

Im skipping around with this post, sorry.. I havent been on the site in a while and just downloaded all these pictures so I thought I would come here and post them. Miss this place..
Sorry if I skip around some and if there is anything someone wants to see just let me know, I have a couple hundred pictures..

I put a 1978 croess memeber in with disc brakes and power steering. I replaced all the brakes and tie rods, ball joints, Etc...

Picked up these rims off craigslist for $100. Not my first choice of rim but the price was right. 20x10

Re: Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

So now onto the paint. I was going to do a Fauxtina paint job but I'm kinda building this truck to sell. My buddy said flat black but I think there is to many flat black trucks to stand out. I always loved the bright blue and white theme so my daughter and I found a apint chip we liked at Home Depot and I took that to the paint store and this is what we decided on...

I wasnt sure about the color at first myself but as I started to spray it I really like it!!

Now onto the grill.. I replaced every wire in this truck. I bought a universal wire kit at the swap meet. Everything I have done to this truck was low budget to keep the cost down so I can sell it.

Re: Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

Sorry for all the pictures but I know everyone likes pictures so.....

Will this is where Im at as of tonight. I will take it for the maiden voyage this weekend. All I have to do is touch up a few nicks in the paint, put the bench seat in, and figure out the wood for the bed floor.

So what does everyone think?? My 9 month budget build.

So far everyone likes the color. I hope someone with cash likes it too!

I have a great wife who doesn't mind me spending time in the garage. She says, " well I always know where to find you". I was trying to crunch and get it done for Daytona Turkey Rod Run but came up a day short..

Nice work!! Did you tub the inner fenders or is that stock inners? I'm building one now and am not modifying my inners and was wondering how it will lay in the front. Also what tire size is that up front?

Re: Motoimpaired's 65 GMC

Boomscatty,

The front inner fenders have not been modified at all. I have a 1978 front cross member up front, stock spindles, and I cupped the lower control arms a little over 2". With all that done this is where it sits on 255-35/20 tires. When aired out in this picture the top of the tires just kiss the upper fender...

Perfect! I like the stance! I have a Fatman Fabrications crossmember in mine with shockwaves and it is still getting body worked. Should have the front together soon to see how it sits.

Thanks. I built this to sell so I tried to keep the overall investment to a minimum. Your truck looks nice! Is the a build thread?
