Turn Signals Stay On - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I need help determining why my turn signal lights stay on when I turn the headlights on. They stay lit, but still blink when you want them to. When the headlights are off, they work as normal. I am assuming it is a grounding issue. I can say that one instrument bulb is not working, which may be the loose link. The socket might be corroded, but I don't know how to clean it up back there.

I recommend try removing the bulbs from the front side marker lights, and see how it behaves then.

Regarding the instrument bulb, I cleaned up mine by removing the instrument cluster and putting it face down on a towel on the kitchen table and removing the bulb holders and cleaning the contacts with Brasso and a Q-tip. I also cleaned the bulb holders.

Also, if you are using LED bulbs in the parking lights or in the instrument cluster turn signal indicators, replace with regular bulbs and check the behavior to see if it returns to normal.

I will try both those things tomorrow. And yes they are new LED's, will try putting the 194's back in the turn signal spots. Thanks

No dice... These are the ones that will not light up. Turn signals still stay on.

Test run a ground from the cluster to the cab.

I bought a truck once that when brakes were applied -the clearance lites would come on! seems like some previous owner crossed the left rear brake lite with the tail lites ???? i didnt notice the brighter tail lite on 1 side ,upon buying truck -right away !!keep cking them grounds -these 67-72 trucks get a ground problem some times !

Well, the temp and brake lights you show in the picture only light up when there is a temp or brake problem. If you have a gauge dash, the temp bulb does not ever light.

Still having a problem with the turn signal indicators? If so, have you removed the LED bulbs from the side marker lights and ensured the front parking lights have regular bulbs?

Wow that makes sense about the gauges not lighting up. Thanks. And I must have gotten ahead of myself and not realized that we took the grill off to get polished, so the front parking lights are not grounded. That must be the problem...

You need to take out all the exterior bulbs, make sure they are all good. Clean the sockets and make sure they are nicely grounded. The housings just ground against the body, fenders etc.

If one of these is bad a light will stay on on the dash.

Im not saying this is for sure fix, just something Ive had happen more than once. Even had it happen in my 62 Ford Unibody with an all new harness and all Chevy running gear... Bad 1157

Sounds like dmjlambert has had the same problem as Ive had in the past.
