Trim decals

OK...I would love to go with all new replacement trim on my truck. (mainly cause I like the look of the trim).

But money being what it is....replacement trim is expensive. OEm evenmore so...along with the labor to bring it back to life.

Does anyone make decals for our trim?

There was a pic of a truck on here and in some Classic Truck magazine lately where the trim (and side marker lights and model insignia) were painted on.

Having decals for the trim would be so awesome...has to be cheaper.

I've never seen any. I always wondered why some one doesn't make stick on trim like the newer trucks use but molded to look like original. I would think it would be cheaper and alot easier to install.

The actual trim. There is a pic on this board somewhere...of a guy's truck in Florida I think it was...with painted on trim...and it looks fantastic. Upper moulding, lower moulding etc.

Well, if you are talking the woodgrain decal, that goes on the lower trim, yes LMC makes a role of it, I think I still have the roll, I was going to replace all my trim too, some was still available from oe, and some was not, this was years ago, I suppose most of the trim now is obsolete, never the less, I bought me a role of the wood grain sticker stuff, and was going to change, it was much narrower than original , and was going to look retarded next to the proper widith trim, so I still have the role floating around somewhere.
I had the same exact idea, of painting (having a pro do it) woodgrain on the lower trim, I bought some lower woodgrain pieces from LMC and most of all the wood grain sticker is lifting and spliting, I wouldnt buy woodgrain lower trim pieces from LMC again without knowing this will happen again, Love the idea of having it painted, would be curious to cost ....... good luck

Not talking about the roll of woodgrain. That is the stuff that goes where other woodgrain once was.

I am talking about the actual whole piece....would look like the whole piece of moudling etc.aluminum, woodgrain, fake screw heads....etc

I can see why one would want it, in lieu of the real stuff, if ease of installation is the key word. No holes to drill, etc. Painted-on trim is a neat trick but more the abilities of the painters to duplicate the look, like what we see on race cars/trucks to imitate the look of headlights, bumpers, etc.

I can't help but feel that anything short of the real stuff, will be more expensive than what we are trying to eliminate.

I have thought about giving the air brush a try on this but I have never used one My dads father was an artist (my house is covered with his stuff) and my moms father is an inventor (automatic pool cleaners for a start) and then their is me. Give me a welder and metal and no problem but a paint brush or air brush I think I would be in big trouble.

I see the advantage being easy of not having to lay out and drill all the holes. Also you would not get the rust starting from the holes in the body. Let us know what you come up with. I think it would be a big seller!

I am working with an artist and am talking to a printer on Monday. I have no idea what it costs to print a sheet of trim and medallions...but it has to be less than 800...considerable less.

Have to find stuff that is pretty tough and UV resistant.

Heck if it costs 200 then you could replace them every 4 years or something and not feel bad.

I don`t think a sticker could look close to as good as that air brush job.The blended shading is what makes that look so awesome.It will look good,but not like that.I`d think if these were air brushed onto vinyl they`d cost more than a layed-on paint job,unless they were mass-produced.I`m very curious to find out how it turns out.I think it`s a great idea.

There are some pretty advanced printing options nowadays...I have not idea what they are but I may find out.

Maybe I'm alone here, but the painted on/decal fake trim looks tacky to me. Now if there were actual aluminum or better yet stainless trim that just stuck on, it would be great. The depth and 3D effect of the trim is what I like most about it, and airbrush and stickers can't give you that. There's nothing prettier than seeing one of these trucks take a curve or pull into a driveway at dusk and seeing the light shoot all the way down the side of the truck on the trim when it reflects off a street light.

These are couple my favorite pics on my truck. Even though the lighting is too dark, I like them because the trim pops. Painted on/decal would never do that!

I agree...it will not look as good. But...the replacement cost on all the trim and mounting hardware..plus the fact I have not heard anyone say anything good about the repop trim. In fact I have heard a lot of terse comments.

Sure I would like all new OEM trim...but that would be incredibly expensive.

My truck will never be in a show or anything like...jusy a nice daily driver.

This is an old thread of course. But my truck has what you are asking about. Not sure where it came from but need to know.
