Caster can make that same issue...however it is highly unlikely that is your issue.

First thing i'd do is give the front end a once over to see where your at parts wise...then decide what lift tire combo you want vs. gear ratio...

Years ago my 79 K5 had a 4 inch lift...and 33" tires. I ended up going to 4.10 gears to get it back in the power band. I always thought that combo was the best...and you can wheel hard and stuff the tires and never effect the turning ratio and or crinkle fenders...once you hit 6"s and 35's you are going to rub.

I think I like the 6" lift now, with the 33's. So I'm going to stick with it for awhile.

I just replaced a leaky trans gasket and changed the oil/filter. Everything looks great underneath and no more leaks...... until, I saw a drip of antifreeze.

I'm going to put in a new radiator as this one look original, and I'll tighten up any leaks along the way.

After that I'll get back to the drivabilty issues.. It needs tires bad.

Just an update. Since the warm weather, I was able to replace the radiator with those new plastic tank/alum ones. (they are light). I also replaced the t-stat with a fel-pro oring gasket (nice too), the upper and lower hose and heater hose. All were very corroded inside. She now runs a consistent 180º with no more anitfreeze leaks. The trans pan doesnt leak anymore either.

I double checked the psi in the tires and found 45 in the drivers side and low 20s in the pass side. This explains why it handled horrible I think. I put 36 in them all and it rides nice and straight. I drove it around plenty today and she really rides nice.

Next up is a stereo and some more cleaning. Then eventually tires. Im open for suggestion on tires if anyone has any.

It's hard to go wrong with BFG All Terrain TA's for looks and decent street manners. I've always had good luck with them, and like the way they look, too. I'd run a 35/12.50 with your lift.

Ditto that. They look killer and run as quiet and tight as regular highway tires. But be prepared for sticker shock, at that size you'll spend most all of a grand on them, even at Sam's, but at least road hazard, yearly balance and rotation comes with the deal.

Im with these guys about the BFG A/T, Thats all I run on my 4x4's. I've got over 45k on my current set.

Ditto the 40K+.

Forgot to say, they will wear a long time. Those tires don't wear out quick like the cheap copies.

I was looking at them, but yes the price is up there. Sounds like I'll get what I pay for with them though. You guys think I should go 35x12.50's??? Or should I stick with 33's?

I'll have to measure to see if it still fits in the garage sitting another 2" higher.

And I'd like the tires to have nice street manners... judging by the tread design that does not look like the case, but I did run a set of these years ago, and I do remember them riding very nice and quiet. I like the feedback on the mileage.

The other tire I was looking at was the Yokahoma Geolanders. They run around $150 and have a 40k milage rating. Any feedback on those?

Tony, I hate to say this because I've bought one big set of BFG AT once for a F250 Super Duty Diesel I had a little over a year ago.

They are expensive. If you don't have the cash, get out the CC like I did.

It's worth it. The look is insane and they are quality tires that will last long enough to get your money back out of them.

That truck is a keeper, if you can swing it put the 35" BFG AT's on it.

It will only sit an 1" higher... not 2". I also had the BFG All Terrian... they were awesome in appearance and quality... and go with the 35x12.50.

I can not disagree at all on the BFG's. I had 2 sets on a Samurai a few years back. Very good on road. Great in snow, great in mud, awesome on rocks! Just all around PERFECT tires. I would never run another type of A/T tire if I can help it.

i just picked mine up to today 38 inch tires 10 inch lift it floats harcore i know what my problem is ....steering box is toast and the middle link is shot its a dropped s middle link i just need new ends
