What is this?

Does anybody know what this is? i'm thinkin some kind of mechanical vent opener. The drivers side vent has a little push pull lever. Does anyone know what it is and how it works? Thanks!!

It either opens the vent or shuts it for the A/c system

I don't think that's a factory option, but I've always wondered if anyone had ever done this. I can't recall how many times I've gone off the road reaching for that off-side vent pull.

It's the factory installed A/C vent controller. My 70 has it with factory air. The dealer installed air didn't have it. (This isn't gospel, I just aint seen one yet)
