Re: The Diffference between the 67-72 Chevy Trucks

The 67 doors have a round hole for the exterior door handle screws and the other years its a teardrop for the handle screw access. Also, 67-68 have different door hinges.

Hello and good day.. I have a bit of a dilemma. I built my truck 30 years ago using a 70 chevy swb 4x4 and put an AC cab on the truck.. I cannot remember for the life of me what year the cab was for sure.. 71 or 72.. Above someone says these differences. I am wondering where is the retaining screw/vent window located if I have a 72 cab. I thought I had a 71 cab, but the retaining screw for the wing window is throwing me off.

I don't want to order the wrong regulators and go through all that hassle.. So is there any sure fire way to tell what year of doors I have? I could have a 71 cab with 72 doors.. My doors don't don't have the plastic panels which apparently LMC doesn't even sell.

I am also having trouble finding the LH inside door latch control on LMC.. any help greatly greatly appreciated.. thanks..

This is a good read. Maybe not 100% accurate but very good read.

a small difference but still a difference
Is it possible this info is backwards? Maybe I'm miss reading but the photo looks to be 69 and the illustration 70. I will also add that the channel around the light buckets on mine are painted (unlike the photo) which I'm pretty sure is original.

Also,

The 1968 50th Anniversary edition truck was the only truck with the pass side mirror that came with a wire adjustment. As noted in this pic....

Re: The Diffference between the 67-72 Chevy Trucks

One thing when your trying to assess the safety and emissions equipment on these truck is to consider that Federal regulations did not take effect until January 1st of that model year.

However I don't know if that is for vehicles produced, or sold, after Jan 1. I suspect produced.

My GMC is a prime example. According to the factory service manual, my 305 V6 should have a Thermac air cleaner (the one with the fat hose running from the exhaust manifold). Not on mine- the exhaust manifolds do not have the "box" for the hose and the original air cleaner is not the Thermac type.

Another sign mine is early production (1968) is the 1967/68 style tailgate. I can remember the very first cars of a model year wearing the previous year's hubcaps. Don't be surprised if your '69 C10 is authentically wearing '68 hubcaps.

Why Jan. 1? I reckon it was so the manufacturers' could use up stock. Many early production vehicles may very well be built to the specs of the previous year in some ways.

Runout stock may explain why one truck of a model has something another from the same year doesn't. So try to deterimline it's build date, or see if has an early sequince in the VIN.

Hmmm. Mines a custom & it's noted as being full foam with that trim package (the Standard Catalog of light Duty Trucks).
All it mentions for the base model is a full-width bench. You might be able to date your bench by what the seat brackets look like.
Mine tips forward, btw.
Sorry that I have no photos of the differences for you.

Yes. I have a '68 C/10 I bought in 1973. It had gray vinyl uphostery with vertical lines-pattern, matching the Silver-Fawn interior.. The back tilted forward. It was secured by 3/8" [?] wing nuts on each side.
I used to keep a scabbard for my .30-30 Marlin bunji-ed on the back.
In 1977, I traded that seat out for an electric power seat from a '69 T-Bird with bench base and bucket backs and a folding center armrest. I don't use the electric parts any more since it draws 30 amps, but it was nice on long trips to change the seating angle-- sometimes adding a little down trim to get a better touch on the gas pedal.

72 interior isn't as nice as the 71, IMO. Think I've heard the timing gears were inferior.

Did the 67-72 C-20s and C-30s always have front disc brakes? Or were the disc brakes introduced in the 3/4- and 1-ton trucks in 1971 as well?

They was on 3/4 and 1 ton as well. I believe that refers to light duty being smaller than c50 c60, etc

These were real trucks. They didn't pretend to be big cars. (That came later.)

1972 was "the last of the all-steel trucks", since interiors were almost completely covered with plastic starting with the '73 trucks. The trend was for the industry to produce trucks that provided the comfort and luxury found in full-size cars, with power windows being offered for the first time in Chevrolet trucks.
IMO, the late 70's was the end of an era. Post 80's was all about aerodynamics and efficiency.
72's actually started the trend in plastic inner door panels. IMO, the trend towards the popularity of car comfort and ease of driving features actually started in the mid 60's ( around '66 ). Ford came out with the "Ranger Package", GMC came out with the "Sports Trim Package" Chevy a year later with the "CST Package". It is common fare to find a '67-'72 pickup with power steering, power brakes automatic and air conditioning which were very rare just a few years earlier. Chevy pickup ads in '67 clearly state they have gotten away from the "truck look" , many styling hues of the '67 pickup came from the '66 Oldsmobile. IMO, '73 styling got back to the truck look that they lost in '66. Mechanically, there were several refinements during the '67-'72 era that got better with each passing year which added to durability and reliability.

This Post is a old one from 2009 with a lot of info for any newbie or others like me that foreget all the differences within our trucks of 1967-1972

I have a question to all you out there and it is this,,

Didn't the 1971 Chevy C-10 grill have some black painted areas around the headlight and in 1972 they did away with it?
