Happy HallowChristmas

Yesterday, Sept 18 we set up all the Christmas displays at Lowes. We still have all of the Halloween stuff up that went up a month ago. I think that stuff will be marked down pretty soon.

Someone said we will probably start setting the Summer stuff up day after Christmas haha. I can hardly wait until they start playing Christmas music, same stuff over and over and over and over and over ... ahhhhh!

I heard Costco put their Christmas stuff up a month ago. I wish there was some sort of rule. You can only put holiday stuff out one month before the holiday.

On a side note, I was putting together a Christmas Peacock display (who knew?) and between it and other displays I put together I was covered in glitter. I made sure to send a picture of the displays to my wife ... I was not at a strip club all day, I was putting Peacocks together heh.

Dang-it. There is sooo much to say about those last two words ^^^^^.

I could go on and on about it.

Because this is a Christmas thread though, that would likely be inappropriate.

Re: Happy HallowChristmas

I used to enjoy going to the Christmas party they had at the "glitter bar" years ago. I'd see about every guy I knew there (among other things ). And they'd all be in great spirits. But I don't think it was Christmas spirits

Christmas is so overly commercialized it makes me sick. I see it as corporate greed stumbling all over itself destroying the very meaning of Christmas. I used to hate seeing Xmas being used. Used to make me feel the same way I feel about Christmas product being pushed before the Autumn Equinox, a full quarter year ahead of Christmas. Now I feel it is only appropriate that they stop calling it Christmas and go back to calling it Xmas. "They" meaning the retail world. Much more honest since none of this has anything to do with the meaning of Christmas. Much less blasphemous if you ask me. I ignore everything about "that" Christmas now. The only thing apart from the religious meaning for me, but not really apart, is the conveyance of warmth and good will toward others. This can include the giving of thoughtful gifts, but not necessarily. I have always loved Christmas. That's why I do my best to block out all the ridiculousness. I do like to see towns decorated and most houses lit up. I do that myself

I agree totally! All about making a buck.

The media is used as a tool to whip up masses into a tight knot of craziness all in anticipation of Black Friday and all the "deals" that will be made!

Only 15 shopping days left!

The morning talk show hosts will be like: "...did you get all your shopping done Tracy?"

The News anchors will be like: "...household spending this year is anticipated to be reaching $942 per person."

If you are not buying a ton of $hit, you are not normal.

Re: Happy HallowChristmas

Thanks. My seasonal gig was up and I could have got on full time in another red vest role but would have ended up with a schedule that would flex all over including nights and weekends.

An opening came up for full time MST, blue shirt folks you see moving products, building displays, Merchandising Service Team. We actually work for the vendors who pay Lowe’s who the pays us.

I’m full time M-F 5AM to 1:30 and now enjoy all the perks, Ins etc of all Lowe’s employees.
I live one mile from the store. It’s a perfect retirement type job

Re: Happy HallowChristmas

The vast majority of people I know still don't "set up" for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, or at least that same week/weekend.

Who is actually buying all of this stuff that far beforehand? I know my wife always buys everything after the holiday for "next year" because it's all 50-75% off.

Man, that sounds like a great schedule! Get up early, home by 1:40 with almost an entire day to get stuff done around the house. My work schedule is 8-6 (Mandatory 1 hr lunch) M-TH and 8-12 fridays. It makes it very difficult to have the energy/time to do stuff at home after work or even run errands during the week.
