rebuilt title

I am looking at a '71 flatbed dually in excellent condition. The only issue is that it has a rebuilt title. I have checked with my DMV and i can title and tag it with no issues. I'm waiting to hear back from my insurance company as to how much insurance i can put on it and how that works with a rebuilt title. What is you guys opinion on this? Have any of you had any experience with a rebuilt title and does it really affect a vehicle this old?

Ill never do it again in Florida , not worth the hassle , you need a DOT inspection here to get a tag for a rebuilt tittle . If you go through this in Florida you be made aware we need a reduction in "government workers" , the DOT person who inspected my truck knew basically nothing about vehicles , seriously , she walked around the truck , stuck her head inside the drivers window from the outside and said "it looks good" , the issue is paperwork , and keeping unskilled people on the government payroll . My experience was a serious bad joke , after someone rear ended me , statefarm just wanted to steal my truck . It took me around 6 months of back and forth with DOT , the tag office , and statefarm

As with most things motor vehicle related, it varies from state to state. In NM, once you have cleared the inspection process, a rebuilt salvage title is no different from an original title.

In California it requires a "Brake and Light inspection" and a
"Safety Inspection" Than your ready to go. Your Title will have a stamp
that says "Salvaged" on it. No Ins Co. will provide full coverage.
Insurance co's Love to total vehicles with minor damage to get them off the road. Sucks!

If you plan on keeping the truck and using it, AND you like the truck after YOUR careful inspection, do you really care what the piece of government paper states? If this is a truck you intend on keeping a short while and flipping it, then the paperwork will cause issues. If the truck is some thing that solves a need, is priced right, and will be kept as part of your livelihood, then go for it.

I think you'll have your answer when you hear back from your insurance company. If they'll give you coverage that you're satisfied with at a price you're satisfied with you're good to go. Assuming, of course, that you trust your insurance agent to tell you straight.

The biggest issue will be of you plan to sell it. A rebuilt title will always drop the value of a vehicle significantly given they're similar. I've always heard about 50%. Not to mention theres a lot of people who won't buy a vehicle with a rebuilt title. Personally I'd only buy one if it was extremely cheap. Theres still plenty of nice trucks out there that haven't been totaled.
