truck has own schedule

Well everything I had planned for upgrades later ,the truck has stepped up.

Heads with larger valves and mild porting. It stuck intake on #4 and broke push rod. So now have heads at machine shop.

Little more cam. well heads are off and only thing to change now would be harmonic and TC being pulled.Orderede it today. Already torn down so half of work done.

Aluminum intake.Dang thing weighs 51 lbs and pain to handle. New edlebrock on the way.

Exhaust comes after trans swap, which is now on budget hold.

Got to love these old things.LOL

Re: truck has own schedule

well of course!!!! This is why most of our hobby trucks are named some FEMALE name (or called a mother of a dog preceeding that name) Few are named Henry or Sam, nooo!! most are named fatB**ch Burtha or Christene or sheDevil... Like the 'real thing'' MAN will be bending to THEIR schedule until time runs out.

LOL and we know why....

.. Dont we LOL

Re: truck has own schedule

I feel your pain. I was on my way to get my bed painted when the transmission went out. After pulling the trans, I figured I might as well replace the leaking rear main seal and oil pan gasket. After pulling those, I realized my nylon timing gear was broken into a hundred pieces and clogging up the oil pump. After pulling the timing cover I realized my balancer was scored badly. I think I finally found the bottom of the hole and am in the process of getting everything back together... It's all stuff that needed to get done but man is it a bummer when you get derailed like that.

Re: truck has own schedule

I went through this last year... Went for a test drive after installing my fancy new AGR power steering box & pump, hammered down on it, heard a loud expensive 'bang' followed a by the sound of metal rattling around at about 6500 rpm. #1 intake valve head broke off, fell into the chamber and took out the bottom end of a very fresh 454. Threw my plans & budget WAY off. I just now got another motor to put back in the thing.

We feel your pain, and as usual, Marv D is right on the money .

And when you start showing some attention to one girl (truck), your other girl (wife, girlfriend, etc) will want attention just as much...

Girlfriend maybe. Wife I'm betting will not work on. Hey I'll give it a try.

Heads back tomorrow.6 or 8 hours grinding and reassemble tomorrow night. Install heads and cam Saturday. Was not schedule or order In wanted ,but hell I'm there might as well get something out of all of the work. Heads will be temporary. Better ones to come with intake and headers, after trans swap.So is the plan and it has worked so well up till now.LMAO

Re: truck has own schedule

Ok heads fixed, well after 12 hrs grinding ,new guide and new valve.Well maybe the grinding wasn't a have to do,for most folks.

New Comop cam XE268 cam installed, should have gone little bigger.Need little more choppy idle. Get it all back together and seems throw out bear ing is about ready to be thrown out.Looks like trucks more ready for the 4l80e to go in,cash flow not so ready.$550 for controller and 250 for speedo adapter of not ready. Well add in 300 for 3.73 swap planned to go with trans swap.

I thought getting this thing going was going to be cheaper than building FED I plan on pulling to local show with it.LMAO
