Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

Whats wrong with the axles you have??

Per your question on Drum VS Disks in the back, i think the argument is that the rear drums are more than adequate, look at the surface area of the shoe contact VS the disks and pads to get an idea, i think some folks think it will add to reduced stopping ability with the disks but not too convinced.

If you have an Eaton HO52 then you have an axle that parts are starting to get hard to find, your shoe's can be re soled, i think spring kits may be the same as a C30 but don't quote me, the info has been posted here before. I converted to rear disks because i didn't want to have to worry about finding rear brake parts, i used front calipers and rotors for a 72 (same year as my truck) But using the front calipers leaves you without an E-break.

If you have not already be sure to check out the 4X4 section and the 4X4 projects and builds page.

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

I sand blasted the frame and ordered some patch panels for the cab.
It needs rockers, cab corners and front and rear cab supports.

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

My patch panels from gmc pauls came today.
I am replacing cab corners.
Front and rear cab floor supports.
I also got the outer four inch floor extensions which has the inner rocker backer attached. This is the way to go if the rust extends into your floor a bit.
And of course I ordered the outer rockers.
The parts look high qualityy hopefully they fit good.
I spent quite a while trying to seperate the front cab floor support the welds are very hard to break.
What methods have people used in the past?

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

This is my first time cutting and welding sheet metal, so I was a little nervous about attempting this my self. I think i have the inner rocker with the 4 inch floor extension pretty close now. I will attempt to weld it tomorrow.
After that I plan to weld on the front and rear floor supports, followed by the cab corner and then the outer rocker.

Welded my inner rocker in I only took it on and off a hundred times to cut and refit and adjust.

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

I'm contemplating on selling my truck does anyone now what I should ask price wise? It has a 350 bored 30 over, pretty much all there except tail gate. It's just in pieces though.
