Farm Fresh Motorsports

This is my 19th 67-72 Chevrolet / GMC pickup, not counting misc parts trucks.

I have had a love for these old dogs all my life. My first vehicle was a 1969 Chevrolet Longbed and have been hooked since.

I have only owned 2 shortbeds in my entire life, 1 fleetside and 1 stepside. I like them, but prefer the look of a dropped longbed anyday.

I had a decent 68 Longbed, with a fresh 350 / Powerglide and 4:11 gears.
I dropped it and painted it flat black.
Bought a decent Black Bench Seat out of the junk yard.
Put on my normal Grant Steering Wheel.

Became

HATED to, but had to sell to buy a daily driver. I commute 2 hours on a work day. So I got this and absolutly hated it.

I ended up buying my daughter her first truck, SHE wanted a 69 or 70 Longbed:metal
We schemed up a plan, I had to buy a 69 or 70 with a good grille.

After looking for about 8 months I found this old farm truck

1969 Chevrolet
250 Inline 6 Cylinder
3 Speed Column Shift
2WD
3:73 Open Differential
Homemade Ranch Ready Custom Flatbed & Front Bumper

It came from a ranch just 20 miles away. It had a new motor from a local machine shop, clutch kit, HEI and a fresh reman carb.

Ran pretty rough, but I knew it was nothing I could not handle.

Got it home, pulled the flatbed & "custom" front bumper.
Gave it an oil change and fired it up.

It had bad gas and junk in the tank, was loading up pretty bad.

Was giving it some gas when it started pouring white smoke. It loaded up and it washed the rings. Smoked so bad the local cop stopped by to investigate.

Cleaned the carb, drained the tank, put in fresh gas and did an oil change.

Ran good after that.

Took a knife and scraped the crud off the distributor cap.

Runs great, purrs like a kitten.

Was surfing the Craigslist when I ran across an ad for 68 Pickup Parts.

Went to look & brought home a bed, front clip, powdercoated black frame, rearend and complete front suspension.

Bolted the bed on, rewired from the cab back due to mice and packrats.

SOLD the POS Toyota, good bye and good riddance. I HATED that damn truck.

The lowering job is only temporary until I get a couple other financial issues inorder. I do know it is not the correct way, but it will have to do for awhile.

I built some blocks for the rear that are a little less than 4" and cut the front coils. I wanted just a couple more inches in the rear so I cut 3" wooden blocks, put them between the frame and rearend. I then heated the rear coils until it frame settled down onto them. Let them cool and pulled them out. Again I am not worried about the coils, due to the fact they are getting pulled in a few months and replaced with proper drop coils with an adjustable trackbar.

Some tires were a donation from a buddy, not my choice but free is free.

I am keeping the rusted baby moon caps and rings. That truck aged them and I believe they deserve to be there, kinda an honor for time in service.

Got the front bumper donated from another friend, it was very dented and bent. I spent 3 hours with a couple hammers doing the best I could.

Swapped out the rear window, the previous owners welded the headache rack on the truck. The glass was pitted really bad due to weld splatter.

Stopped by a local salvage yard and picked up a set of 60 / 40 split buckets out of an 96 Extended Cab Chevrolet.

The stock fuel tank had some pin holes in the bottom of it and was seeping into the cab. Very difficult to keep the windows rolled up.
I took the tank out of my daughters truck, she is wanting to change to a rear blazer tank anyway. I bolted her tank into the bed of my truck, it took a couple days and that way I did not have to take the truck out of service while doing the swap. I do not like the tank in the bed, but it is only for a short time until I do a blazer tank swap.

Started driving the truck daily, but with the 3:73 gears she was running some excessive rpms and I was only doing 60 on the highway.

Began looking around at the two other rearends I had here and lucked out to find a 3:07 under my daughters truck. She is going to be running a built 350 / Turbo 400 and it will be her hot rod, not her daily so I swapped my 3:73 with her 3:07. Sure made the old 250 much happier and me too.

Have been slowly wet sanding the blue & white to expose the original gold color again.

To Do List:
New Drop Coils, Frame Notch, Adjustable TrackBar & New Drop Shocks.
Find a useable cab.
Swap to the 68 front clip.
Blazer fuel tank.
Knock out the dents and paint it flat gold.
New tires, taller and wider in the rear.
Change the speedo gear in the transmission to match my mods.
Swap the gauge cluster, with one I am working on right now.
Install aftermarket gauges & tach.
Change the steering column & install a floor shifter. I have both already.
Shave the side marker lights and trim holes.
