I transported a 1970 c10 long bed on one and it fit, but without much room to spare.

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

My c-10 transported on a U-haul dolly, and on a full trailer for a longer ride. If you have fat wheels/tires that stick out, it may not fit. Stock wheels/tires will probably work.

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

We rented a trailer from U Haul to tow an Old Range Rover, told them we were going to tow a Honda Accord, this was from a couple friend recommendations...
You may want to check the weight rating on the trailers and your truck, the U Haul guys can be tough. My 69 K20 weighs in at 4800lbs with me and the dogs sitting in it after going over the dump scales. So about 4500/4600 empty.

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

If you are renting a u-haul in a big city, they won't like any combination of towing vehicle and towed vehicle. They put it in their computer and the computer says yes or no, and it usually just says no. I don't think their computer goes far back in years, so they don't even know what a C-10, C-20, K-20 is, or any vehicle from earlier than the late 90s. The u-haul dealers in small towns out in the country are more permissive and know what to type in their computer to get the trailer rented. Tow with a 3/4 ton truck or bigger for safety. You may also consider a tow bar, I've seen threads were people here have discussed how well these trucks track.

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

I’ve hauled 2 72 k20s on them from Utah to New Mexico. They fit but as said above it’s close. Make sure your tires aren’t to wide. I told them I was hauling an 87 (or something like that) extended cab ford ranger with my 98 K2500. The ranger has the same wheel base as a K20. I’m sure if you got into a wreck with something on the trailer other than what you told them you were going to be pulling, you’d be liable for everything. I never had one bit of trouble other than the surge breaks on those trailers suck bad.

Surge brakes yea, make sure it has the pin to lock out the brakes, when you go to back up a hill with a vehicle on,it won't move, trailer thinks it is slowing down with inertia,so put the pin in before you back up,just my 2 cents,

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

They have 2 different auto trailers that I know of.
Ask for the one tha ends with the letter X. (AT4274X) It is bigger with better tire straps.

I towed my Kubota tractor, with loader and Backhoe, on one. I told them I was towing my son's little car.
The only thing that concerns me, is what are you using for a tow vehicle?

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

I pulled my 70 C10 250 long bed about 3 hours home with a 2012 1500. Truck fit and pulled fine, only did 55 or 60 the whole way home.

Would I want to do it all the time? No, but I’m also not too experienced.

C10 had 265/75 16s and the straps fit, but barely.

If the '71 K20 doesn't have a motor and you are going to load a bunch of stuff in the back of it you may want to think about loading it backwards on the trailer. If you don't have enough tongue weight you will be all over the road (literally) going down hills.

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

I towed my '69 C-10 long bed from Maryland to Arizona back in Mid 2014. I gave Uhaul the exact information of what I was towing on the trailer and what vehicle I was using to pull their trailer. I have a Ram 3500 Dually with the factory hitch assy. They put the information into their computer and I was fine. By doing this, I did not have any liability issues with UHaul by falsifying what I was using their trailer for (in case of rental equipment failure). My tow went well and I think the trailer they assigned me was one of their newer, slightly longer units. My rear tires are 13" wide N50-15's and were touching the side rails of the trailer tightly, but did fit inside the rails, not on them.
I do not recall what the codes were on the trailer, but think they were mentioned earlier. I have attached a few photos of my setup while parked in Flagstaff Arizona.

Re: u haul auto transport trailers

I used a U-Haul dolly for a 72 long bed, a U-Haul car transport for a 72 Blazer and a 57 Chevy 2 door. Never had any issues with any of these.

Glad it worked out for you. It looks like a nice solid K20. What are your plans for it?

plans are to make it a daily driver, might lower it a tad and run 33`s its suppose to only have a 4 inch lift.. looks higher to me, but it sits with out a motor. can`t decide color, either black, or hugger orange with white top.It came with alot of nice parts, t350-205 xcase witch i think i`ll keep.
