Factory heater

I assume this is the factory heater and blower motor for my 1950 3100. I'm sorting through what to keep and what to trash and I was wondering if this is worth keeping, rebuilding or selling. No switches of any kind and im not sure how the two work together... maybe im missing something. Would it be worth while to keep it and could i still have an A/C later on down the road?

Re: Factory heater

trash it. its 6v and will need a motor upgrade or a serious power resistor to use it, if the core doesnt leak, and it will because modern cooling systems are 12-16psi and when these trucks were made they were 0-3 psi. I have had 10-12 of them and never sold one for more than $5. I have an old mopar on the shelf I think has a 12v motor in it and if it doesnt I will trash it too.

once a guy heard I was into old trucks and said he had something I may be interested in, he had collected a bunch of old 6v heaters. I declined buying them as politely as I could without hinting about his wasted time.

Re: Factory heater

Lol, alright. I'm a little iffy on what is safe to throw away on something so old. I'd hate to throw away some tiny thing that is hard to find.

Re: Factory heater

there are a VERY VERY few that can be worth money but they are usually in perfect condition or even NIB. you have to remember that these were universal accessories for all cars and trucks that didnt come with heaters, so they made millions and millions of them.

Re: Factory heater

That is the "standard" heater/defroster. The core is super expensive to replace. I'd think the market for one is very small as most guys who want the stock heater want the Deluxe fresh air heater.

You can actually buy a Vintage air heat/defrost compact heater unit for about half of what it would cost to put that one in good working order if the core is bad. As the others said the core is only good for 4 lbs so they don't last long with a newer engine an higher pressure radiator cap.
